Default Back in a NB?!

Sooooo, hello to all y'all who might remember me ;-) It's been a while.

Ari and I have been doing some car shopping lately, and I have it narrowed down to two cars...

2002 Snap Orange, 53k miles (Yes, yes, I already had one, but I miss it so much! And no, I will not be getting crazy with this one.)

2007 Jetta 2.0T, 22k miles

While the Jetta might conventionally be a better Mommy car, it's newer, etc., I can't help but really want the NB. I know that car seats fit well enough in the back seat, and Ari and I are just little folks so getting the kiddo in & out shouldn't be a problem. but... do the 2002 NB's have LATCH? I can't remember... How about the rear top tether anchor?

I'm really on the fence with this one. LATCH is a big thing for me - it's so much easier to install the seat securely, & I'm big on safety for my little girl :-)

Thanks!!

LATCH (aka ISOFIX) was featured on 1999s, so you're fine in that regard.

Personally, I'd say go with the Jetta. The 2.0T is a gem, plus the vehicle has more cargo capacity, in addition to a higher safety rating.

As much as I am a Beetle freak... I would also go with the Jetta.

BEF!

Nice to see you around!

I think I'm gonna have to vote with the others and say get the Jetta.

Would be a great car for hauling around the kid. Much roomier. And while I've never driven the new Jetta, it can't be much different than my A3. Which I LOVE! The 2.0t is great! Although, you already know that.

Before the A3, I used to get a bit depressed come winter when it was time to garage the Beetle for awhile and drive the 4Runner exclusively. Now, I no longer feel that angst.

Get the Jetta. The MKV is a much better car.

Whenever I need to cart my niece around I always take my mom's Civic because while the carseat fits in the backseat of the Beetle it is SOOO difficult getting it in (I have to crawl inside the backseat) and then putting her in it. And I have to have the front seat pushed all the way forward so no one could possibly sit there. It's just so inconvenient for kids. If and when I ever have my own they won't be in a Beetle. Not to mention putting a stroller in the trunk

I think I may be changing my vote. If after having an EOS for a couple years, you're still missing and wanting to get back into a NB, then I don't think a Jetta is going to help much.

So I think I'm gonna vote for the Snap Orange.

If you are keeping the X3,(SUV, right?) then get the Snap Orange New Beetle back into your life.

You know you want it.

And, Nice to see you!

Fully cognizant that the Jetta is the more sensible choice, I'd go for the Beetle. Snap orange!

being that i'm kind of in the same boat, if i had to choose, i'd say screw the beetle and get the jetta 2.0t. it's a much better car, and it's a 4-door, which any mom or dad will tell you, makes ingress/egress a LOT easier.

little package on the way in july means that my days of 2-doors are done, so yeah, being that said, i can't even look at a 2-door, and i don't understand how anyone with a newborn can want a 2-door, especially a beetle...though i suppose you could just do the removal and replacement of the baby through the hatch (it can be done!).

though if i were shopping, had ~$20k to spend (judging by the 07 jetta, i'd say that's the budget), and was looking at a 4-door, i'd have to go with a certified used audi a4 avant. lots of room, fun to drive, and with the v6, still not a pig on gas.

that all being said, it's your money and your choice, and opinions are like buttholes: everyone's got one, and most of them stink. you and ari will make the best decision for the 3 of you financially and for the family.

ps: i can guarantee i'll get called a douche for saying screw the beetle but hey...que sera sera.

Realy, the only bad thing about the beetle and baby's is the trunk. Getting the baby in my Accord 2 door coupe was actually easier than a 4 door. No swinging the baby around to put her in the seat. Just put one foot in and the seat is straight ahead. Getting the stroller & anything else in the trunk is what you really have to think about.
