A game of Punch Bug anyone?

So my fiance and I have reinstated the wonderful game of punch bug recently. I just wanted to see the different rule variations that are out there. For us, this is how the game is played:

*Bug spotted*
- First person to see said bug shouts out "punch bug!" and lays a nice punch on one or more victims.
- The attacker then must declare "no punch back!" very quickly after landing the punches or else the victim can take a free lick off their attacker.

Anyone have some wacky variations of this? Also, after recent events I think it's safe to say that drinking and punch bugging do not mix

When I was younger we played "slug bug". When a beetle was spotted you would attack the person of your choice. Of course you'd just say "slug bug" and announcing the color was optional, you just had to point to the beetle. End of story. UNLESS! If you wrongly accused a car of being a bug and it was not, then the victim was able to hit the attacker back twice!

My wife and I have been playing this game since I bought my first bug in 1998 (1975 Beetle) when we were just starting our college romance .

We don't punch each other, but have specific rules on the phrase that has to be said. Also points are allotted depending on the relative frequencey of each type in the area we live.

Phrase to be said: "(Color) punch buggy don't punch back". Where color is the particular car color.

Points Rules as they now stand:

Regular new beetle = 1 point
Convertible new beetle = 2 points
Regular old beetle = 3 points
Convertible old beetle = 4 points
Geek Squad new beetles = 5 points
Other specialized (company) beetles = 5 points

*Cars for sale, parked at dealerships are disqualified.

Right, I forgot that

1. Dealership cars are allowed only once for new sightings (of course, VW dealerships don't count!)
2. If it is a Turbo S, you get 2 licks, since those are very rare here (I have one!).

Hehe.. the game has gotten more technical now.. no longer just "punch puggy red" or "punch buggy blue" ... gotta be "punch buggy Salsa Red" or "punch buggy uni red" or "punch buggy techno blue" or "punch buggy batik blue".......... you get the idea.

me ,my g/f & daughter play this all of the time;and they usually kick my butt playing punchbug! Just look under my screen name lol....My g/f says she used to give 2 hits & call out "double punch bug" on any transporter/microbus.if there are more than 2 people in the car when punchbug/slug bug is played,you must "punch" them all or risk a punchback even though you called 'no punch back' on the 1st hit...interesting point scale antonym....the only time I usually claim more than 1 point is for a vw bus;but I'll keep that in mind...my daughter also invented 2 more "car whacking" games..."PT bruiser" when you see a pt cruiser,and "cadillac whack" whenever you see a cadillac...after all I am the punchbug ninja....lmao....

But...a bus isn't a bug
And...your daughter didn't invent cadillac whack I know of a few other people, besides me, who played it when they were younger.

me and my friends used to play a bunch of variations on that game there was:

slug bug
cadillac whack
pt bruiser
focus pocus (repeatedly poke someone in the chest or arm really hard)
mack smack (mack trucks)

dont see too many mack trucks anymore though. most have been replaced by volvo.

The Super Bowl "Punch Bug" ad was great and they actually started with an NB. I'm a devout NB nut as you all know and may be a bit biased but I thought it was definitely the best ad! And I was so pleased that they started with an NB. VWs rock!

Are you kidding? VW has totally lost its soul if they think they can end the NB line and make people forget the lovely Bug by changing the game. It's "slug bug" and it's for Beetles only -- boring Jettas do not count. Grr.

(Can you tell I'm pissed about no more New Beetles being made?)

I enjoy the new "punch dub" commercial ideas, but growing up it only worked with old Beetles and no other VWs. When the NBs came out they didn't count (for whatever reason). and like mentioned before, we would yell " __(color)__ punch buggy! No punch back!"

I was at a bar this afternoon and the punch dub ad came on, I blerted out that it is a dumb ad. everyone turned to me and said yes it is it's Slug bug not punch dub. (meaning any vw) It should be only Air or Water Beetles.
