Default this economy sucks!!!!!

ok, so we all know the country is in a "recesion" and all that other bs they feed us, but holy crap is it hard to find a job. especially for a 19 year old full time college student who is currently in the national guard. every month i'm afraid they are going to take bridgette, the only love in my life(sad, yes, i know. but heh. I'm single so what else is there) it just frighten me to think that she might be gone one day when i wake up. I hate this getting my loan/insurance money the day or two before it is due. I think vw needs to start a program to help poor beetle owners in this and similar predicamints

I feel for ya. I'm fearing the same thing about Probie, and I'm not even unemployed yet, I still have 4 weeks! It's not easy out there, I wish you the best of luck! I think if you call VW though, and let them know your situation, they may be able to move your payment to a different day. I'm going to be calling all the places my bills are through and letting them know that I got my termination letter and that I'll be unemployed and see if there is something they can do to help me; if anything... It's worth a shot. Good luck to you huck!

Good luck to both of you.

Huck, can you go full time with the ANG or regular Army? If so, you might gain some worthwhile skill that will transfer to the private sector when this mess finally ends.

Michelle, I don't know what to tell you. It sounds like you've already got things pretty much under control and are taking all the right actions. I hope you find something soon.

In any case, if a car has to be parted with, so be it. You can get another, newer, nice one, or one exactly like it, later. Even though there may be sentimental attachment, in the end it's just a car.

I'm with Cheat on this one. If you're worried about making car payment each month, quit bitching about the global economy and focus on your own. Cut out unnecessary expenditures (like bud vases and antennas) and focus on the things you HAVE to pay (like tuition and car payments).

farris, my brother from another mother.

seriously huck, we were all 19 once, then we found our priorities.

the thing about the economy though is that we put the clowns in office who did this, it's no one's fault but our own...

i fully understand all of this, i make no other purchases (besides gas) untill those bills are paid each month. as far as im concerned, my priorites are fairly straight. my tuition is taken care of by my state government (thank you national gov.) and my drill pay makes my car and most of my insurance payment, i have to scrape for everything else by, unfortunetly, borowing from my grandparents or helping friends with things for money, i was viying (probably spelled wrong) for the antennea because im really getting tired of not havign a radio, and the bud vase was just an extra bonus seeing as it costs so little.

Maybe someone here has an antenna they don't need anymore that they'll send to you for the cost of the shipping? Put a post in the classifieds section. Maybe they even have an extra bud vase. You never know until you ask

I think that's a very valid point. We are all family here, and you never know what someone has that they no longer need. Maybe you can trade for something? Or maybe someone just wants the stuff out of their house because it's extra or maybe (heaven forbid) they no longer have a NB.

I think that's one of the major reasons I love this site. People here are so awesome. Willing to help out a complete stranger! Although, in a way, none of us are strangers, we all have something in common. And I think in this kind of economy, as crappy as it is, it's a great way for us to reach out to one another and do what we can. Maybe we can't provide money to pay the bills or parts to fix the car, but maybe we can offer a service? or maybe just an ear to listen...or I guess in this case, an eye to read? And of course, we all offer advice, good or otherwise, it's still advice

Sorry to hear you are having a hard time. I just got back on track for the most part myself. And it's thanks to several awesome .org members that I kept my head on straight while I clawed my way out of the little hole I dug for myself and my Bobby. I still have him sitting in my driveway thank god!

His tags are expired until this friday (payday) and his insurance is a month late, (payday tomorrow woot) but hey... he's still mine.

You gotta do what you gotta do. I called family and friends. My dad was nice enough to give me 150$. He owes me alot more then that, but he's pretty broke too... but yeah, it was helpful. And I am greatful.

Keep your chin up, and come here to vent. They're all just trying to help, like myself. I'm a 21 year old female trying to start school again this year. But it's looking like next year right now.

And salute to you for being in our armed services, love. We owe you alot.

Well... with such hard economic times, family needs to stick together, and help each other out. Friends included.

We're all in this together, regardless of social status.
The government (if they indeed are screwing us) is screwing all of us together, regardless of race, religion, or creed.

Otherwise, see if there is anything else in your budget you can cut out. Do you buy a cappucinno once a week or two you can cut? Every penny helps. Trust me. I gave up smoking so I could better afford my bobby.

Beetle or smokes? Beetle or smokes? I asked myself that everytime i was tempted, it helped me quit...

I was unemployed for 6 months last year, and again now for 8 months so far this year. Job prospects are not real good, but family has been keeping our (my wife and I) heads above water.

Don't even get me started on the government. Clinton started this, Bush made it worse and allowed it to go unchecked, and now Obama and the rest of his socialist sycophants are dead-set on taking full advantage of it. They are ruining this country to make us fully dependent on them and to bring about a different America than the one that has existed. They hate freedom and liberty, they despise and scoff at personal responsibility. People always complain about the crooks that are in big business and how they always "screw the little guy." Well there are just as many crooks in government, not only our elected leaders, but in education and other bureaucratic agencies as well as city, county and state governments. So which is worse? A crook that runs a business who is in competition with other crooks and a few non-crooks to at least keep them honest? Or a crook who is in partnership with other crooks who have the power to control our lives and tax our livelihood?

These crooks want us to be dependents, because dependents are compliant and happy for the crumbs they receive from their "Dear Leader." Dependents are not free to make their own choices, take care of their own responsibilities or to produce and succeed in life.

By making us dependents, they get to stay in power. Look at the trade unions, teachers unions and other government unions from the local level to the state and federal level. They are all dependents, and they are all lockstep in favor of those who bring home the bacon. When you are dependent on someone, who are you going to choose? The hand that feeds you and makes life easy? Or the hand that opens your cage and sets you free, even if it might be harder?

You rock DZL!

IBTL

This thread peeved me, but I kept my mouth shut. The opening post in the thread demonstrates an entitlement mentality that is sadly pervasive in America, and I fear is so locked in we'll never get away from it.

Thanks Bill. My intention was not to get this thread locked, and I realize my post would be better suited to Hot Topics. I woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning at 6 AM, and I've spent the better part of the last 3 hours searching for and applying for jobs. There really isn't much to apply for, and out of the hundreds (yes I said hundreds) of jobs I have applied for, I've only gotten a few nibbles back with no job yet.

My previous post kind of just flowed out of me as I haven't been able to express it for awhile. It helped, my blood pressure is better already.

A little Al Green helps too:

On the job front--I feel ya there. I've gone a couple years now through a series of PT jobs after being on unemployment searching for something in my field which is still totally dead. I gave up looking there and moved on to other/any things. Right now I'm PT at a very big international employer and feeling positive that I'll get FT, benefits and opportunities to move up so I see some light at the end of my tunnel. Wish ya luck.

I agree Dzlbug. I too will be in the same boat as you. Searching for job after job...with little to apply for but meaningless minimum wage jobs. I do like the bird cage anaology too. Makes sense. It's a bit of a Hot Topic, but I think we've all felt that way at one point or another here lately.

I just say, good luck to all who are looking for employment, or will soon be looking for employment. And here's hoping that the economy can recover and we can regain our employment and start spending again. I don't know about you, but this whole saving thing kills me! I don't mind saving, but man, I like to spend atleast every now and again....even if it's not for something I want...but something I NEED!
