Miracle on 34th Street is also a good one! The one with Natile Wood and Maureen O'Hara in it. There is another one that I love so much. It is kind of sad in a way. It's got Ed Asner as the Dad, & Maureen Stapleton as the Mom. The Dad learns he has a terminal illness, and at Christmas, he basically tries to bring the family, with grown children together one last time. I know it sounds sad, but it is a great Christmas movie. It was made way back in the 70s or 80s but I think it's held up well. I can't find it on Netflix but I would love to get it! Anyone else heard of it?Oh it's called The Gathering. I found it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gat..._(1977_TV_film)

Bad Santa w/Billy Bob Thornton as my all-time fave.
"I carved you a wooden pickle"

The Nightmare Before Christmas, Tim Burton movies are delightfully bizarre.

Rudolph, White Christmas, Holiday Inn, Wonderful Life, Christmas Story.

I haven't seen this one mentioned:
It Came Upon the Midnight Clear (1984) (TV)
It's a Mickey Rooney movie. I haven't seen it for a long time but I remember enjoying it.

I have to agree with a few that mentioned "Bad Santa", it's so twisted but does end up have a decent message at the end!

I started to start a new thread but found this one! It's that time again, Christmas parties, Christmas with the family, But of all the things about Christmas I think enjoying the many movies that air from Thanksgiving - Christmas is way up at the top! I love the movies about Scrooge, I always said I like every single one, but I found one on CED that was a musical! Now I don't have anything against musicals, just not my cup of tea, but I do have a problem with musicals if the people who are singing, sound like I do when no one can hear me!! Al Finney was a good Scrooge, but when it came time for him to sing, ouch!!! I will have to say IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE is still my very favorite Christmas movie of all. What is yours???

My "must watch" movies are A Christmas Story, and the original How The Grinch Stole Christmas with Boris Karloff narrating. I also love Rudolph, and Frosty, and all those old cartoon stories, and another favorite is White Christmas. I have them all on DVD and watch them at random times of the year because they are "feel good" movies that make me smile.

Sissi the Austrian Empress with Romy Schneider. I know the movies well. Watched them when I was a kid in Germany. Very romantic and well done for the era. Haven't seen them in a very long time. Good choice!

I watched Fred Claus last night. For a comedy, it really has a lot of touching moments.

He is my favorite too! I have always loved that one. There is another one that stars Henry Winkler as the "Scrooge" type, he is a furniture maker and it is set in early America. I haven't seen it in years, but I remember it being good.

Yes, Alastair Sim turns in an outstanding performance, doesn't he? Have you seen the colorized version of it? Here's a clip:
A Christmas Carol -- Marley's Ghost - A Great Scene - YouTube

Speaking of color, have you seen this? Here's the entire movie of It's A Wonderful Life with a 2007 colorization, and done quite well:
It's a Wonderful Life: Colorized Version *HD* - Part 1 of 1 - YouTube

I know the pros and cons of colorization, and I pretty much take a purist stance, but colorization has made great strides of late. It was pretty bad at first...

I'm glad to see that so many people like bill murray's scrooged. It is my favorite adaptation of Dickens A Christmas Carole by far.

He just nails the part beautifully. Any time I think I'm "all that", I watch the movie and it reminds me what is really important.
