Default "BreakDown" kits :)

Hoping its not only me here,

Ever since I made the jump from aircooled vws to my current Nb last year,I've always kept a small kit of misc tools n' such just in case.

Here's what I've got in my Kit,

-Canobd2 scanner (I already used once on the side of the road)

-Fire extinguisher (a "must have" ever since my old beetle caught fire)

-'99 owners manual for reference

-emergency cell phone charger+adaptors

-spare 0w-40 (for those long trips)

-TomTom gps (I'm horrible @ maps)

-AAA premium membership

-full size spare + doodiddlies that came with it

...Hmmm,that's all I've got for now..

Anyone care to share? Any suggestions?

A full tool box isn't a bad idea, there's been times i regret not having one.

I too carry a fire extinguisher, people laugh occasionally. I posted one of my cars on a forum and they noticed a fire extinguisher and it turned in to a flaming, so i posted the picture of the charred underside of the hood and they shut up.

LOL, my 74 caught fire last year.
halon in both cars now.

other than that i carry the normal tool kit in the nb.
my nb has never broken down, even with the big turbo.

the 74 is all apart in the garage now, fenders off, engine out, etc....

when it gets back on the road i'll have a tool kit that includes:

2 13mm wrenches
17 mm wrench
lug wrench
screw drivers
flares
fuses
small assortment of nuts and bolts
spare tire with a 135r15 tire

i already have the AAA plus membership with the 100 mile tow package.

excellent thread

After doing my water pump and the other stuff that goes with it, i've been saying the same thing as you all... must have tools in my nB. Yes a t20 is a mainstay for any nB.

i'm currently building Cup's toolbox. In her box will be.
-a t-index along with a handled t20
-an assortment of screw drivers
-a ratchet assortment
-pliers including vise grips
-fuses
-hose clamps..the screw type
-for kicks and giggles i want a spare ignition switch... had one go out one too many times
Cueball (Earl McCutcheon) inspired me to do up a nice tool box. I think I took a pic of it in Roswell. I'll see if i can find it.

Along with the toolbox, Cup will sport a fire extinguisher. Most VW shows here in FL require you to have them- major reduction of points for not having one.

Cup will also have a first aid kit... another requirement for FL VW shows.

All of the aforementioned will be nestled in a custom caddy area that i'll design. I'll post pics when it's all done.

Now here's the pic of Earl's toolbox. Earl's box is loosely sitting in the trunk. Cup's will be a little bit smaller and attached to a custom panel.

Very cool yeah?

When I saw that box in Cueball's bug in Roswell, the light of inspiration come on and I thought it would be a good idea for Cup. Of course out of respect for Cueball, Cup's toolbox will be different. But yes that is one cool toolbox

BTW, Your screen name is very cool! it would make a cool t-shirt!

Indeed an awesome toolbox Scarab

I forgot to mention I've got a t20,an LED flashlight,and a tire pressure guage .

I even carry spare mechanics gloves so I won't get dirty on my way to a "white tie" event...Not that I get invited to any,but a guy can dream,right?,lol...

Seems as thought beetle fires aren't vary uncommon, when my '70 autostick bug caught fire (fuel line to carb came loose),the poor engine was toast, along with the paint on the decklid & upper shell. Grrr, the fire extinguisher went out so I had to pile dirt to save her.

I fixed her up the next week though

note to self:
add gloves and a flashlight to the toolbox list

Dude that was one of the sweet things about the oB. Throw a little dirt on the engine fire, a little tinkering here and there and badda boom, you're running the next week!

And uh, we'll have to go "White Tie" at the Tally GTG. I still plan on coming over. Maybe before the TOD!

I really should get some tools for Fiona, right now I have:

- spare coolant (from when we did my thermostat)
- 1 qt of oil (the good kind)
- windshield wiper fluid (the green kind, its got debugger )
- first aid backpack
- LED light (its in my purse at all times so it counts )

soon I will be getting:
- a spare fuel filter (I STILL can't believe we couldn't find the right one, silly car always needs special things, what should I expect from a princess?? , now I know )

Where do you plan to mount your fire extinguisher? I plan to put one in both cars but I'm not sure where to mount it.

I've started a photo journal of this project and will post the early stages of what i'm wanting to do on this thread. Basically I'm wanting to make a panel behind the rear seat which will house the toolbox as well as the fire extinguisher. I'll get something up soon.
