Default Lack of a Bug, or Former Owner Ponderings

It dawned on me tonight as I watched our 2003 NB being hauled off by her new owners. This is the first time in 12 years we've been without a New Beetle. Wow, has it been 12 years already?

August 1999 - Acquired 2000 NB 2.0L 5-speed
February 2003 - Acquired 2003 NB TDI 5-speed
May 2005 - Acquired 2005 NBC 1.8T 5-speed

The '00 was the first to go, to a friend of mine (who still owns her) in the summer of 2007. The second to go was the NBC in the summer of 2009, back to VW Credit (end of lease). And the final, the 2003, tonight to her new owners in North Georgia. I truly hope they care for the car the way we did. They did mention TDI Club during our discussions, and I made sure to mention this resource, so they seem to be more in-the-know than many other people would be. That makes me glad.

I'm sad to have seen her go, but at least she'll be in capable hands.

We still have two VWs, my '07 Golf GTI (until it sells) and my mom's Golf TDI.

Feels kind of odd not having an NB in the driveway anymore.

Goodbye, Mateka. You were a fantastic little car.

I know how you feel, even though I have two older Vws I still miss my NBs , every time I see a red NBC I get all sad and teary eyed .

I did a Carfax on my former NBC last year, and to my chagrin, it now resides in my old hometown in Maryland. Just too funny.

I keep coming back. I think I have finally learned that I need to be in a New Beetle. I'm sad to see that pic above. I know how you feel, though.

How would you compare the TDI to the gas models as far as reliability, need for maintenance and ease of maintenance. I have a 2002 NB 2.0L auto w/109k and I have enjoyed owning the car. But as of late it has gotten fussy, not to mention the looming question of how much longer my auto will last.
