What would you do?

At work recently, I was wrote up for breaking a window on a garage door. Here is the story: The garage door sensor is broke, this is an industrial door! And when I was under the door with my forklift, it came down on top of me and broke one of the windows in the panel.

Management wrote me up, telling me it was my fault. Yes! They said the sensor isn't important...let me remind you that this is suppose to be a safety door stop sensor so it doesn't come down on people.

I'm being charged for damages to the door, and they took my forklift license away for a year. I called OSHA and Labor Division, and I'm waiting for a reply from them.

The stores name is Menards in Columbia, Missouri. I'm trying to figure other things I could fight them with. I'm not very happy right now.

When I started reading your post, I immediately said to myself "That's an OSHA violation". Then I read that you've already reported it to OSHA. IMO that is the BEST thing you can do. Unless you have a union, and if so you could contact your job steward to file a grievance.

The situation SUCKS! I hope you are able to get resolution soon!

If what you said was true, the door could have hit someone in the head, and injured someone severely. Is there a CCTV of the area?

Yes, I asked them about having a camera there. They said there isn't one. I then proceeded to get my camera, and they wouldn't let me

And that's what I told them, the management knew about the door not being safe. It could have hurt someone (customer).

if your in the Union call your shop steward or union rep, if not call the local union and explain to them what happen and they will most likely appear to your job to recruit people for the union and put a huge rat in from of the business
