Unhappy Looking for NewBeetle under 5K to replace Abbey

I am 18 and I attend Emory University in Atlanta,Georgia. Two years ago I got my first car which also happens to be my dream car, a VW Beetle. I just lost Abbey(my silver 2000 Beetle and my first love)to a drunk driver on December 21st.She is totalled . 12.25.08 would have been our two year anniversary.I still can not stop crying although I am thankful to be alive.
Nevertheless, I am looking for a new New Beetle that I can love and cherish. Unfortunately, I am looking in the price range of $5,000. Any information on affordable buggies looking for new loving homes would be very helpful. Thanks!

I am so sorry to hear of your loss of your NB. Damn drunks! But, thank goodness you are OK!

I just know that you will find your next New Beetle. Good luck to you.

So sorry this happened
I had a serious collision a couple of weeks ago, that's going to cost me almost as much to fix as my Ladybug is worth. So I know a bit of how you feel

Here's hoping you find a nice NB to adopt

So sorry that happened. Merry Christmas still. At least we have you to celebrate the hoidays with. Abbey is somewhat replacable but you are not. I'd offer you my honda but I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy!

I've been looking for NBs for a while now and the two websites I tend to use are

Autotrader.com

Autos.yahoo.com

Both just make sure you type your zip and the car you want. They even let you customize the options/trim levels on the car.

Btw, my stepsister just got a box for Christmas. She opened it and got Keys to her brand new Mustang Convertible. I hope the same happens to you too! (Cough Cough and Me too cough cough)

Default 1998 for sale in Decatur

I'm very sorry you lost Abbey, especially right before your second anniversary. I have a 1998 yellow NB, Sunny, that I've been thinking of selling in your price range, and would only want to sell to someone who would truly love it (and talk to it). I bought Sunny new on March 31,1998 - it was one of the first NBs in the Atlanta area. (Last year, on March 31, I told my kindergarten students that it was Sunny's birthday - they were so excited, though one child asked, "How can a car have a birthday?" They were shocked to learn that Sunny was older than they were!) I'm thinking of selling Sunny because I bought an '05 NBC two years ago, and can't continue to afford two cars. Sunny currently has 117,434 miles, and has been very reliable all these years, with a few intermittent electrical issues, but a very good engine. Up until 100,000 miles, I had it repaired and maintained at Jim Ellis VW, and since that time have used a private mechanic. I have all maintenance and repair records - the water pump and timing belt were replaced at 105,000. The only thing that needs repair is the AC. I will email pictures if you would like, and can introduce you to Sunny any weekday afternoon - I teach in Decatur, so could meet you on or near campus.
