1998 Volkswagen Beetle TDI Turbo Diesel

This car is in exceptional condition inside and out and is MECHANICALLY SOUND and ready to go. I bought this car for my fiance and she loved it. It was easy for her to drive, quick, great on fuel mileage and sporty looking. We hate to sell it because it has been super reliable. The car runs great, it has no known leaks or problems. I am absolutely meticulous with maintenance and have replaced many of the normal maintenance parts within the last 3000 miles because we were not expecting to sell it. This car would make an excellent Christmas present for a new driver or someone looking for a fuel saving car. Even if you have not driven stick, it is very easy to learn on this car because of the torque of the diesel engine (my fiance, who came from an automatic car, was fully comfortable within the first week). I am not going to do what most people do in ads and say "this car gets somewhere between 35-55 mpg" " or up to 50mpg", this car has delivered a VERY CONSISTENT 42 MPG with my fiance driving it, and that is with 18" alloy wheels. Another great thing about this car is it is super cheap to insure because of the safety features. It has ABS brakes and side airbags. It only costs my fiance $34 a month to insure this thing and in addition to this it has a fairly recent inspection that is good until next July, 2010. Below I will list the specs of the car as well as recent maintenance done.

Description:
-1998 Volkswagen New Beetle TDI
-1.9 TDI Turbo Diesel Engine
-5 Speed Manual Transmission
-158,211 miles
-Power Windows
-Power Locks
-Power Mirrors
-Power Steering and ABS Brakes
-6 disc CD changer
-Spoiler
-Ice Cold Air Conditioning
-18" Factory VW R32 rims "Aristos" with High Performance Kuhmo Ecsta tires with ~50% tread (16" stock alloys also available)

Recent Maintenance ~last 3000 miles or less
-New Battery
-New Intake Temp Sensor (Factory VW not Autozone)
-New Fuel Filter
-New Check Valve
-New Air Filter
-New Headlights (needed one replaced both)
-New Rain-X Wipers
-I will be changing the oil with New Fliter and New Fully Synthetic Oil this upcoming weekend
-The entire intake system has been fully disassembled and cleaned.
-The entire intercooler system has been fully disassembled and cleaned.
-All Intake pipes and intercooler pipes have been fully disassembled and cleaned.
-If you know anything about VW TDI's the last three things are extremely important and rarely done by most owners, this service is several hundreds of dollars if done at the dealer.

Minor Things Wrong:
-Nothing major, I don't forsee this car needing anything in the near future or even by next inspection
-Normal small scratches and bumps for a car of this age and miles, the paint is VERY nice but not perfect
-Some scrapes on the lower front bumper from the previous owner
-Hood has a small dent on the drivers side, hard to see in the pictures but I tried to take a close-up.
-Trunk popper and gas popper don't work. We always opened the trunk with the key and the gas door you just lift open, not sure why there even is a popper.
-Other than that car is great

Pictures:

The last picture is with the car running (note tach is at 750 RPM) to show that there are NO Check Engine Lights or warning lights ON. The second to last picture is the hood dent. Here is the deal with the pricing of this car. As it sits, with the fancy VW 18" alloy wheels that are a small fortune from the dealer, we will let the car go for the advertised price of $5800. If you are NOT interested in the fancy rims that I added I have the original 16" factory VW Alloy Wheels that came on the car with tires at about ~ 40%. If you want the car with these rims instead (16" factory alloys) we will let it go for $5600. If you are like us and want both sets, 18" for summer and 16" for winter I can work that out with you too. I am flexible and will work with you and set the car up how you want it. Prices are relatively firm because I purposely made them low for a quick sale.

Also, if the buyer does not want the 18" Alloy "Aristos" they will be put up for sale later, so keep that in mind and shoot me an offer if you want.

Car is Located in Quaketown PA 18951.

If interested you can contact me at osipowea@lafayette.edu.
My phone number is 267-374-3239 but I will tell you ahead of time I rarely carry my phone, you can leave a message but the BEST way to get a fast response is by email. I can normally respond within an hour or two or less.
Thanks,
Alex

$5800??????

don't see a recent or new t-belt listed, and there's a nicer condition 98 with heated seats and far less miles at a similar price right on this website.

i'd do $3000 knowing full well i'd be kicking in $1000+ worth of stuff into it off the rip.

The previous owner said they did the T-belt, I have had the car for ~10,000 miles or less, why would I do another one? I specifically did not list that because I, myself, can't prove it. I only listed things that I had done within the last 3000 miles, didn't you read the description. Look, I would have taken no offense to your offer if you had sent it as a pm. But it was not, it was meant to cut the car down publicly to scare away interest. You will deny this I am sure, but what other reason would you post an offer for half my asking price when my price says "fairly firm but will work with you". As far as the other Beetle you mentioned, BUY IT!!, gosh your not to swift are you. If its such a better deal than buy that one and get out of my thread! Oh wait, that was marked as a feeler, and I thought they weren't going to take anything less than KBB which was like ~6300. Mine is much cheaper than that if you want it with the same wheels theirs has, almost $1000 cheaper. Which is totally fair for their car. If you want to discuss this further, shoot me a pm, or an email, I listed it but I guess you wanted to make your big public statement about this and that without knowing the facts (little man's disease sucks, don't it). Until then learn some business manners and stay out of my thread ya tool.
Thanks,
Alex

ps: I already have 3 interested parties at the asking price, to the rest of you I am sorry about this, I am very easy to deal with, I know I am a newb on this site because beetles aren't really my thing, my fiance likes them. But I am a long standing member on other diesel sites and hate comments like the above given the circumstances (firm price, went out of my way to list everything I knew). I apologize for cluttering this thread up but felt a response was warranted.

i wasn't meaning to come off as a dick, i am sorry.

i appreciate your honesty about the belt, it certainly makes you look awesome as a seller.

if you'll take $4500, i will buy it with the 16s. that is feasibly as much as i would pay for this car.

that's just me though, others may pay more or less, i'm just bluntly honest.

the bad thing about advertising here is that most of us already have our dream beetle, we are a tough crowd to please.

again, i apologize, i am not really happy about having to buy a new car at the moment with everything going on, but once i am back in ct, i will nwwd something fast.

No problem man, I appreciate the apology. I would like to apologize to you also for my response, I was quick to be harsh, and some of my comments toward you were childish sorry about that. No worries though! As far as your offer I will def keep it in the back of my mind. I can't afford to let it go that cheap, especially being the first day with some interest already. But if I get desperate I will let you know. I do know what you mean about this being a tough place to sell, I am sure everybody here knows twice as much about these cars as I do, and they all know what they want (which is good!). That's OK though it is for sale on many other forums as well as the usuals like craigslist.
Thanks for your interest,
Alex

By grill do you mean the lower part of the bumper (sorry still learning beetle terminology)? If so that was damaged by the previous owner, looks like it was caught on a curb or speedbump you can see in the pic it has some scrapes and alittle piece of plastic seems to be missing from each side.
Hope this answers your question,
Alex

Put the fancy wheels up for sale separate. Didn't have much room to work on price of the car with those on because they were expensive.

Still available on the car if you want them. Much more flexible on price now with stock wheels and tires for a serious buyer. $5500 OBO with stock rims/tires. If you are SERIOUS and have CASH lets talk. Fresh oil/filter (synthetic) change 3 hours ago.

Thanks,
Alex

Had at least 3 parties make offers that I accepted, but either did not come or could not get funds. I am motivated to sell and will work with the buyer. Make a SERIOUS offer and lets talk.
Thanks,
Alex
