Default Looking to buy a NB :)

Hey all,
well, I thought I had my bug today but it seems that its sold (or at least has been taken offline) tonight and I'm sorta bummed. I finally found one in my price range and was just getting the money out from Gma (whose signing my loan). I'm looking for an auto NB, color doesn't really matter as long as its in good working/running condition... I'm shopping in the $2500-3500 price range and maybe thinking an 98/99 bug?

It sounds low but thats what I'm hearing I can pay for one.... I'm also located in Cali and it will be used as a commuter car for school and work in the LA area... if anyone is selling please let me know!

I'm selling but my Yellow 2000 1.8T is a stick shift and all the way in Ohio. Sadly I can't help.

I don't know one off hand bit will keep my eyes peeled. By the way, I live in the L.A. area and bought my NB last September for $2,400, a '99. I found this one by accident through a friend. Wasn't really looking for a NB, just a new used car. My '65 VW needs much down time. The seller wanted $3,000. I asked her if I might take it to my mechanic. I asked him to make a print out of all the things it needed. I don't mean items like brakes. i mean items like timimg belt, water pump, etc. I took it back and offered her $2,400. She agreed so then I had the remainder of my money (6oo) to fix the problems. You want to get a diagnostic. Could save you $$ big itme. Good luck!

I'm going to look at one here today that the gal wants at least $3000 for (she said thats what VW will give her for it) . its a 99 but just a GL model.... has new engine belt, timing belt, water pump, and battery... it also had its engine flushed by VW.

we'll see if i can talk her down. I'm taking all my info the diag. guy gave me for the last bug i almost had just so i can show her... I already have to relpace the windshelid if i get this one so i'm gonna try to low-ball... KBB says $3200 for it so if I can get it for less than that what should I do?

How many miles on it? What engine is it? If its a 2.0, make sure you ask about oil consumption...a lot of the early 2.0s had issues with increased consumption (mine doesn't, in fact mine barely uses any, but there are many with problems with it). Definitely check it out really good. Drive it. See how it feels. See if it makes any noises. Make sure everything works. All the basics really.
