Default Looking for a Yellow Convertible

Just signed up with an account for my wife....I'll let her take over the account once I find her one. I've been looking for a used Sunflower Yellow New Beetle Convertible for our 10th Anniversary since that's her dream car and she has NO IDEA I'm looking. Depending on the price I would prefer a TDI with a 5-speed but open to any other engine/trans options. Please let me know if anyone has one for sale or any good leads.

Thanks for the help!!!!

Joe

You do mean that you want a Convertible, or a TDI? Depending on the year, the NBC will have a 2.0 gas engine, or a 1.8 Turbo gas engine, or new ones will have the 2.5 gas engine. No NBC will have the TDI engine.

Have fun with your quest for a New Beetle. You are so nice to be doing this for your 10 year anniversary!

We will keep it your secret.

Welcome to the Org! Buying an NB for your wife is a great idea. Let us know where you are located and it will help us know where to look.

Best of luck to you. We just bought one, found it in Craigslist. Keep ur eye open and check local papers, Craigslist and eBay. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Exclamation Hello!

A BIG Texas WELCOME to the Org!

Sunflower Yellow has been available on all Verts (referred to as NBCs around here) since their introduction in '03. Thier were some issues with the tops that were refined in '05, and their were minor body changes and an engine change in '06. Give us an idea of what you are looking to spend, MT or AT, interior color, etc. and we'll all keep an out for you!

And don't frete over the TDI thing, lots of maintenance with them, go for the Drop Top!

Default U guys are quick!!!

That's some pretty quick shooting from you all!! Thanks for all the input and I feel welcome already!!!

I updated the city in my profile....but for those of you who have no idea where Okeana, Ohio is located on the map (as most people do not) it's close to Cincinnati. I'm used to traveling and hauling equipment so would probably go about 8 hours out or so for a good deal on a nice NBC for my wife. Probably looking to stay under the $7000 range if possible but will consider anything fitting the criteria.

I would probably prefer a manual trans just for simple fun and control but not opposed to an automatic.....what motor would you all recommend for my wife's dream bug???

Thanks for all the input,

Joe

That price area is going to put you in a '03 or '04 unless it needs a lot of work or has an awfully lot of miles. Two choices on engines 2.0L or 1.8L Turbo, and I believe two choices on trannies, MT or 6spd Tiptronic. From everything I've read here the "bugs" have been worked out on the 2.0L by '03. Some issues with the 6spd Tip, but VW recently extended the warranty on part of it and it shouldn't be a problem if caught early.

If I had my druthers it would be a MT Turbo. but then I grew up with standard shifts and performance engines. The '05 NBC I bought two months ago is a 2.0 with a Tip, go figure. I'd go more for the condition and mileage, than worry about the engine or tranny, because used, the conditon of the engine and tranny have so much more to do with how they have been maintained. "Demand" service records, and I'd stay away from multiple owners.

As you get closer, keep your posts up, what your looking at, etc, and there are a number of us who will be very willing to help you with what to look for!

Postscript - Even though I consider myself a Texan (I wasn't born here, but I got here as fast as I could!), I am a native Cincinnatian, grew up there, and currently own a home there, although I spend most of my time here. And I don't have a clue where Okeana is. But once you get your Bug, Cronin VW, on Montgomery Rd in Cincinnati, is the oldest and best VW Dealer around.

I'm afraid we're about 12 hours from you but I'll give you a holler if I see something really spectacular. Won't hurt to keep my eyes open.

As far as engine/trans goes... I would always recommend the 1.8 Turbo/5 speed.

When I was buying I was pretty aggressive and offered low to very low. I found a very low milage NBC for which I paid $7k. A couple of days later and even before I picked up my NBC I got calls from ppl that accepted my $2k to $2.5k under asking price offers. My point? Be aggressive, it is still a buyer's market and some ppl inflate prices so don't be afraid to offer. Once you find the one you like purchase the carfax, its only $36 and can unmask a lot. I too will keep an eye out for you! Just an opinion the more open you are to colors and options the faster she'll be driving. We wanted an Aquarius blue, but 22000 miles on the clock helped us fall in love with a red/cream interior although I've never been a big fan of red cars.

Good advice....I can be aggressive and probably settle on color since I know a few good body guys who could change the color for me for under a grand. I appreciate the input and let me know if you see anything out there....THX!!!
