Default WTB New Beetle

I am looking for a good daily driver and I have my heart set on a Beetle. I can only afford $5000 so I know that will get me something older with about 100,000 miles and I am ok with that. Do you think that you all might be able to help me find something? I am in Orlando and wouldn't mind traveling for the perfect find. Thank you for all your help!

Wow, both of those have great miles! I am going to call on them for sure!

My husband found this one and is ready to put in a bid now. I really love the color but I am not sure if it is a good value or not. Anyone willing to offer any input?

This car is a special edition Snap Orange Color Concept but the ad is incorrect. It is not a Turbo S. Other than the misleading ad, I think I would at least give it a look.

I would look at the car Palmettoguy listed in the earlier message first. Best I've seen on this thread so far. I reread the ad for the Snap Orange CC and would definitely say you should take it to someone for an inspection that KNOWS VWs. Whoever is selling the car doesn't know what he's got. Good luck on your search. Please keep us posted.

+1

I like how the guy says at the bottom of his ebay ad that you will have to include 150 to cover fees, ect.
What a rip...

Another word of caution would be new beetles with automatics. The 01M transmission is known to fail between 80-120K miles and are v-e-r-y expensive to repair. If you can drive stick, look for a manual trans. Search the Org for threads on the automatics. They're also known as autotragic, for a reason.

I forgot to welcome you to the Org This is the best resource on the net for new beetle owners. You may also want to check out the events section for GTG's. The Southeast region is a pretty active group.

Here's one right in your back yard next month

And of course the grand daddy of them all held the 1st Saturday in May each year.

Very good to know! I actually prefer a standard and it would really suck if I had to replace the transmission right away!

I actually live over in Winter Haven in lovely Polk County but everyone knows where Orlando is so it is just easier to say. Hope your pennies grow quickly and you can get your New Beetle asap! Nice to meet you!

Al (scarabY2k) should have a pretty good turn out for the Old Towne event. Even if you don't have your NB by then, you may just want to attend. You'll get a feeling of how our GTG's are. We're a laid back bunch that are just plain crazy about our new beetles

There is also an "end of summer" September GTG in St Augustine. This year will be the 3rd of what has become an annual event

Does something as late as an '05 have the same transmission problem?

If at all possible stay away from the automatic trans, even the later models can be sketchy.

I think the auto trans was redesigned along with the body facelift starting in 06. I believe those are referred to as the DSG trans which are known to be more reliable.

I thought the DSG was the same thing as the Tiptronic. I really don't know, the auto trans in a NB might as well be a different language to me. I could tell ya stories about a 5spd and 6spd though.

Actually it is a turbo s , thing is 2002 was the only year they made them, they has so many problems its not even funny. It has a spoiler wing on top of rear window so theres no mistaking that it is turbo, if its really not an s than they be fine, but those ss are horrible.

Turbo S motors never came in the Color Concept cars. Also, the Turbo S cars were '03-'04 I believe. Only came in silver, black, red, and grey if I remember correctly.

No, it is NOT a TurboS. As stated below, the TurboS was 02-04 and only offered in silver, black, red and grey. I've owned an 03 TS bought new in 03 and never had any issues with it that you wouldn't find in any other new beetle.

Agreed 100% with what you state except 02-04 vs 03-04 The 180HP/6 speeds were NEVER offered in the CC cars. That said, the PO may have changed out the motor/trans as those swaps have been done. I personally don't think that is the case with this car.
