2003 Volkswagen New Beetle Turbo S $7,500 OBO

Yeah, so I really really don't want to do this, but I am thinking about putting my car up for sale. I am trying to be more responsible in my life, and getting rid of this car is part of that.

So here is the complete story on this car. I bought it on September 17th, 2010. I test drove it 4 times before I bought it, including taking it to SCI Performance in Minneapolis for a pre-purchase inspection. I loved this car and had to have it. I traded in my 2002 New Beetle 2.0L on this car. I loved the Beetles and wanted one that had more "oomph". Chad noticed that the tires that were on it were crap, so I made made the dealer put on new tires, as well as replaced the cam tensioner. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they put on a new set of Bridgestone Potenza G019 Grids.

So within the next weekend, the check engine light came on. I went into the dealer the next day and demanded that they fix whatever was wrong with it. It turned out to be the thermostat. They replaced it no questions asked.

I drove the car like that until November, at which point I put on a set of VW "Reggae" wheels with Nokian Hakkapeliitta RSI snow tires, so as to save the Potenzas.

On March 25th, 2011, I spent the weekend replacing the brakes. I used Brembo rotors and Hawk HPS pads. While I was test driving it after the brake job, the timing belt shredded. I towed it home and tried to figure out what was wrong and what I was going to do. Thanks to a bunch of help from a lot of eurowerks members (local enthusiast club) I was back on the road the next day with a new timing belt, new water pump (metal impeller), new headgasket, new intake manifold gasket, new exhaust manifold gasket, and an AEB head.

Since an AEB head was put on, the secondary air injection could no longer be utilized, so it was removed. We deleted the secondary air pump, the combi valve, the N112 valve, and the corresponding vacuum lines. Deleting these items did not affect the driveability, the reliability, or the performance of the car, but it did trigger a "Check Engine Light". The AEB has larger intake valves, and is commonly put onto later 1.8t engines in order to go "big turbo" (from what I have read). Since then I had occasional boosting issues, but in order to correct those, I replaced the N75 valve (wastegate frequency control valve), the coolant temp sensor, and rerouted the entire vacuum system.

The car is now running in tip top shape.

So why am I selling this car? I have driven a Beetle for almost four years, and I am ready to try something else out. Plus, I drive over 100 miles a day, I need to haul a road bike, and I have a baby niece and nephew (both require strollers) and I can no longer justify owning a small hatchback.

-Bridgestone Potenza G019 Grids with less than 10,000 miles on them.

-"Stubby" antenna.
-Clear front marker lights.
-"Euro" light switch.
-Timing belt, water pump, and all gaskets replaced >10,000 miles ago.

I would very much like to take trades on this, but I need to get myself out of the loan on this thing before I can think about another car. I bought it for the wrong reasons, it was fast, fun, sporty, good looking, and handles like a go-kart. That is not what I need right now. The price that I am looking for is $7,500 OBO.
