"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Crown Royal in one hand - Cigar in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO, What a Kick Ass Ride!"

So he is saying that, the timing belt hasn't been done correctly, if at all. That the oil has been changed too frequently, and with the wrong oil, the glow plugs probably don't work and/or are cross threaded into the head. And it's probably had some completely unnecessary work done incorrectly.

TDI + dealer service = fail.

I know you are just posting this for your friend, so no offense to you. VW dealers are bad enough, Chicago area VW dealers make the rest look like rocket scientists. There is a good reason that Jason up in Madison WI gets so much work. People that know better are willing to travel up there, and those that have been screwed over go there to have it fixed right and evidence taken so the owners can go to court. Jason been involved in many court cases as an expert witness against Chicago area VW dealers.

Being the serious VW enthusiast/owner that he is, I'm sure that everything on this car has been maintained correctly. I'm familiar with the car and I wouldn't hesitate to buy it myself if I was in the market for another one. Interested buyers can contact him for maintenance history and records.

And, as a side note, I've had no problems with the dealership that I take our VW's to, especially because they'll work on our air-cooleds and our water-cooleds.

With all due respect, I'm not buying it. Which dealership?
