Default FS : 2002 1.8T Double Yellow Color Concept (named Sting)

AND.... Sting is now SOLD.

Just so you see it ------->> ASKING PRICE : $7500

Well it's that time. Going to step back from Sting and get into a little bigger vehicle that's a bit better for my back and such.

The car is a 2002 1.8t Double Yellow Color Concept known as "Sting".
Sting has 61,000 miles on him, and has many parts upgraded or replaced.
He is located in Longview, Washington, only 45 minutes north of Portland, Oregon, or about 3 hours south of Seattle.

I'm not sure what to list / say about Sting. So, I'll list the repairs / new parts first, then upgrades, and list some pictures.
While most of my recent pictures show him without the yellow wheel inserts, I do have them in a bag in the garage.
I originally took them out because some of them were slightly warped and it really "bugged" me!

Repairs / New Parts

  • New Thermostat (OEM installed by VW) , Spare thermostat from ECS in box here with new housing. (done at 42,171)
  • ECS Tuning Ultimate 1.8 timing belt / water pump kit (installed by Godfrey Auto) (done at 52,000 miles)
  • New MAS (OEM installed by VW) (done at 56,000 miles)
  • New Throttle Body (OEM installed by VW) (done at 56,000 miles)
  • New Battery (OEM installed by VW)(done at 57,593 miles)
  • New PCV Valve (OEM installed by VW)(done at 57,400 miles)
  • New Coilpacks (Recall installed by VW)(done at 55,876 miles)
  • New, upgraded Borg Warner Ignition Switch & new pigtail wires (installed by Art's Electrical)(done at 52,800 miles)
  • Oil changes performed regularly, using full synthetic

Upgrades
  • Stage 1 Clutch kit with lightweight flywheel from ECS Tuning (installed by Clutch Doctors) (done at 40,732 miles)
  • Koni STR.T Performance Shocks & Struts (installed by Godfrey Auto) (done at 60,204 miles)
  • Neuspeed Sofsport 1/2" Lowering Springs (installed by Godfrey Auto) (done at 60,204 miles)
  • NGK Iridium Spark Plugs (installed by Godfrey Auto) (done at 60,204 miles)
  • 42 Draft Designs Water temperature adapter (installed by Godfrey Auto) (done at 60,204 miles)
  • 42 Draft Designs Oil relocation kit (installed by Godfrey Auto) (done at 60,204 miles)
  • Glowshift Oil filter sandwich adapter (installed by Godfrey Auto) (done at 60,204 miles)
  • Glowshift Tinted series gauges (installed by Godfrey Auto) (done at 60,204 miles)
  • Berndt 3-gauge custom pod (installed by Godfrey Auto) (done at 60,204 miles)
  • Limited edition spoiler (prepped, painted, and installed by Behrends Body Shop)
  • Pioner DEH-P690UB cd/mp3 head unit
  • Monster matts (front and back)(original color concept mats are here too)
  • 17" Toyo Proxes 4 225/45 ZR17 95W
  • 10mm H&R spacers on rear wheels.
  • Custom, hand-made 'Stinger' antenna
  • VW chrome exhaust tips, welded on.

Parts that have not been installed yet

  • New front valance (purchased to do custom paint, never got around to it)
  • New front grill for valance (someone kicked a small hole in the grill, so I got a replacement but have not put it in yet)

I do have a number of OTHER parts as well, but those would have to be up for discussion with the new buyer.
IF they were willing to pay my asking price, I would include them. If they did NOT, the parts would be sold off individually.

Parts that are up for discussion

Custom Painted engine cover
New - APR R1 performance DV
New - Neuspeed P-flo Short ram intake
New - VDO Vision Series gauges + Perfect Match LEDs + adapters
New - Angry eyelids (unpainted)
Used - Xenon eyelids (painted uni-red, paint is mostly coming off, needs redone)
MTX Thunderform Bug10 sub box (no sub in it)
New - Hood (unpainted, purchased with the hopes of creating custom hood)

(these parts, sold individually, would cost over $1000, so it's a nice bonus to the new buyer if they pay the asking price)

As a side note, if you WERE to buy this at my asking price, and install your new APR R1 dv, you are ready to step up to the Unitronic Stage 1+ upgrade for $500 from Unitronic, which would pop Sting to 225HP & 260lb of torque. That was my next big "thing" but I'm not going to do it since I'm selling him.

I know I'm probably forgetting things, but if I do, I can list them as I find them!
The yellow leather has faded a LITTLE in the sun, and at some point needs to be redyed, but still looks great. The left side of the drivers seat, the foam has collapsed around the bolster and needs repaired, but the leather itself is not torn or ripped.

Pics of the car....

(no, you can NOT have my Ultragauge! Unless you pay the asking price of the car, then I'll leave it in! The Ultragauge is an OBDII connected series of digital gauges as well as code scanner and resetting device)

((This shows the OLD yellow spoiler. The spoiler is now black. And at least this way you can also see the wheel inserts, which are bagged and in the garage, also shows the factory antenna which is now a custom 'Stinger'))

I will add more pictures of the interior later this week, probably Wednesday, after I get him detailed and cleaned. If you have any questions, please let me know!

If there is a '02 DYCC out there worth your asking price, this one is it. I'm sure there isn't one better taken care of or more loved. I know how you have struggled with the decision to sell Sting and wish you well in his sale! Someone is going to be a very happy new owner.

Wouldn't hurt if you'd put a link to your photo thread in your post, and link both to any outside advertising you do.

Sorry you have to let Sting go Stephen. I agree with Deb and M. I hope Sting goes to a deserving nB entusiast. Good luck with the sale.

I wish I could buy Sting for Val. I know she'd love it.

One of the best kept CC beetles bar none

You should get your asking price for sure.

Trust me, it's hard for me to sell Sting. I've owned a lot of cars over the years. But I've never owned a new car in my life. Which sucks. I always get used vehicles with the previous owners problems.
Sting was the only vehicle I ever connected with and really ENJOYED doing things with, modifications, etc. I love my DYCC. I never got around to doing anything with my other cars, except for a couple sets of wheels and a stereo.

Over the years I've had...

A 1993 Plymouth Turismo

A 1994 Ford Escort GT

A 1993 Honda Civic EX

A 2000 Jetta GL

A 1999 Ford Ranger XLT

A 2000 Saturn L200

A 1994 Dodge Colt

A 1999 VW Beetle 2.0

A 2002 Beetle 1.8T DYCC

And Sting was the only one that I went nutz over. So you have to understand, selling him is NOT easy for me. It's like, selling a child or something. It's out of necessity. Once I've gotten my body healthy again, more limber, I'll get another Beetle. But for now, I gotta send my baby to a new owner so they can love him too.

So really, looking over your list, up until the last two, you had never even had a real car.

Actually, I had been thinking a thread like this, listing and showing all the cars we have driven or owned, would be a fun thread, after all we are so much a reflection of what we drive.

Wow this is a great car folks! For $7,500.00 you can't find a better car period. Sorry to see it for sale as Stephen has really taken great care of Sting over the years. Love the custom antenna BTW!

Thanks everyone for the thoughts

I'll miss Sting, but I'll stay in the community here as I work on my Transit once I get it. I've already been in touch with the European forums, they put me in touch with the company that makes all the parts for the "sport" version, and they have agreed that if I want, they will ship me one of the hard to find Transit Connect Sport spoilers! Booyah!

I put the inserts back in the night before last. Funny thing happened. When I took them off, they were warped and didn't fit properly. After taking them off, and cleaning the wheels, and having the inserts sit on a shelf for the last , what , 8 months? The inserts straightened back out again!

So I'm off right now to take some pictures with the inserts IN

Back shortly!

I just sold Sting for $6500.

It was a fair price. I'm happy with it. The new owners are happy with it.

Dealerships KNOW it's a limited edition. But they try to WAY over charge for it
