Post some regular pics of the interior and exterior. I would be interested to hear why it needs a new engine.

If you say it needs an engine. Does that mean you removed the engine or it isn't working any longer?
Did the timing belt break?
Is everything else still in working order?

It still has its engine, vw dealer told me no compression in one of the cylinders and the block has a hole in it (rod broke?) Timing was ok, maybe caused by bad spark/detonation? it had a code for evap leak and I found it had a cracked charcoal canister of which I bought a used replacement that I never got to put on the car, will go with the car. Missing passenger seat heat switch (not a big deal) as well as the traction control switch. Two days before the engine went bad the abs light came on (sensor? don't know). My dad decided to push the car to the front of the house on a snowy day for some reason and the front grill came off, im sure it just popped off not broken. the housing around the armrest stalk seems to have been unprofessionally taken off at one point(not by me) and it wont stay put. That's all I can think of for now.

NB's are overhead cams, they do not have push rods. Ask the "dealer" again where the hole is in the block.

Well the exterior looks nice and the rotor rust is not a big deal; you do not often see that much tire tread on a used car. That front support brace might be more problematic than you think.

A used engine for $600, not likely in my area. So why are you looking for an engine replacement?

I don't think I've seen a 2.0 locally for under $750.

Drives me nuts because I can't find any deals like these in the south-east. Best I found here was a 98 that barely ran, had dents in everybody panel, and the entire interior including carpet and seats were spray painted black.

And they firmly wanted $3000 for that heap.
