Mine do this a little bit... it's because you're draining battery power I think.

Makes total sense... just making sure, since I'll be bringing in my car for it's window issue soon... may as well make the trip worth my while.

Here's another.... My stick shift knob is rotating... so the numbers do not correspond to the gear location anymore....

The shift knob is just stuck on a metal lever, held on with a clip. You can just rotate it back!

I dont' think I have enough elbow grease... I may mention it to the service dude. It's not affecting anything, just pesky passengers bringing it up.

Oh yeah, I just remembered that the stock knob (you've still got the black rubbery one, right?) is shaped inside to keep it from twisting. It might be kind of hard to get back in place...

Sorry, it's been a while since I changed mine out!

Yeah, I have the stock one... never changed it for another.

If the shift knob is spinning; then call it a safety hazard and explain how it's caused you quite a few scares. (fib)

If it's 'just the plate/numbers' that's spinning, you could:
a) tack it in place with the itsy-est/bitsy-est dab of superglue.
b) spin it, bat it around, play with it when you're at stop lights until it pops out, then glue it back into place.
c) take this opportunity to replace it with something more unique, like a vw logo or personal picture or graphic.

If the whole knob is spinning though, make the dealership fix it.

It wouldn't be just the shift pattern plate. That's held in with 2 clips, fitted into holes in the knob. noR has a point, you could easily claim this a safety issue, though I don't think it will actually risk any damage. But I don't understand how it would start spinning in the first place. It's hard plastic under the rubber, and it's got a flat spot that corresponds to a flat spot on the actual shift lever.

I'm having them check out the gear knob position too while it's in getting the window fixed today.

They have ordered a new knob for my beetle. The 2006 doesn't use a clip to hold it in place, but a "v" shaped notch that the knob fits into... apparently the knob I have had a misaligned notch (this is all what the service rep is saying). So I'll likely have it replaced on Friday.

Hmph! I never thought about a difference in knobs between model years!
