Default New owner/ top problem

We just bought a 2005 convertible. Unfortunately it didn't come with an owners manual. I've been reading and leaning plenty here. We found an issue with the top today. With the top down the top indicator is flashing and the car chimes at you when you start driving. It's a power top and it's down as far as the motor will put it. Is there a latch or something that needs to be set?
Thanks,

TiM

It is not that it is not "down" enough it is that the secure latch that blocks the top once down did not close. Keep pressing the "open" switch until you hear the chime and the top/temperature indicator shows the temperature again, then it should be o.k.

Thanks for the tip, that did the trick. I assumed that when I heard the actuator sound change I should release the switch, now I know, hold it until you get a chime from the dash.

For some reason when I try to view your sig, the site tells me I'm not signed in or I don't have the correct privileges. This happens right after I have logged in. Not sure what the issue is. Does newbeetle.org provide space to UL pictures or do I have to use a host elsewhere?
Sorry for the basic questions, we just got the car Wednesday and I just found the forum last night. It's helped already!

Thanks for the info, the manual isn't available on Ebay any more ;-) hopefully it's on it's way to my house by this afternoon.
Here is a picture, it's from the night we brought it home, in the rain. So it goes, the tops been down since then.

Sweet! Triple beige? Tip or 5-speed? 2.0 or 1.8T? Start a photo thread and also list the specs here: http://www.newbeetle.org/forums/foru...aysprune=&f=22

It's only double beige, the top is actually up in the picture, the black top just didn't reflect any light back from the flash. It's a 2L with the tiptronic shifting. We've only had the car for three days, though we purchased it a week ago. The air bag warning went off during the test drive and we had to wait for three days to get that problem resolved. aside from that we're happy with it.
