OK, I have accepted the aluminum plate under the car since it serves a purpose as a stiffner, but WHY would you put a dust and pollen filter on a convertible????? To keep the dust outside the car when the top is down?

Yes, there is a pollen filter in the vert and you need it because when you are running the heat or the A/C, the air that is pulled in from the outside still goes through the pollen filter before it gets heated or cooled.
