Question Rear Window Problem (RECALL?)

I have a '04 NB Conv. and the passenger side rear window has gone bonkers. It must be the regulator? With all or single operation it goes up about half way, and will go down, but to get it to go all the way up you have to physically grab it and pull up while someone else works the switch. HAS THERE BEEN A RECALL ON THE REAR WINDOWS?

Nope

Not on the verts. Prepare to bend over backwards at the dealer!

I just went through a similar thing with my front window regulators. All of the windows in the vert are prone to failure due to the regulators, and VW won't do much about them after you are out of warranty...

Best of luck.

Thanks, I guess I was just hopeful.
I just replaced the front drivers side regulator myself, not a hard job, just takes lots of time and about $200 in parts.

I did this repair myself on my 03 convertible last year. go to 1stvwparts.com and give them a call there is a rear window regualator repair kit, comes with a roller wheel, cable, spring, screws and new plastic track sliders. I takes 10 minutes to replace the offending part and only cost lie 55.oo shipped to my door vs 650.00 from dealer for a whole regulator. 1stvwparts.com sells only genuine vw parts( as they are part of auburn vw) . the only downfall to this repair is it takes about 3 hours to carefully disassemble the back seat ans side panel to get to the regulator. well worth the effort. go buy any tools yu dont have and the kit and if you hve to buy tools, it will be 150 or less to do this, if not 55.00. or go get @$$raped by the dealer to repair it for 1200.00 (insane) you could buy an old bug to restore for that much money!

Default Rebuild of window regulators

I found a company in Brooklyn New York that rebuilds regulators for a fraction of the cost. The only drawback is you have to send them the regulator with the motor so they can rebuild it.
They are: Regulator USA

Im trying them out this week.

I had my rear window do the same thing and I replaced it myself. Found this page on the internet that is right on the money. went to dealer and bought kit for $80. Went home and took 3.5 hours to replace.

Total cost $80 + 3.5 of my own time.

well worth doing it yourself.

Have fun

Red face rear window fix on '05 'vert

OK--

I'm not looking to spend over $1000 at a dealer to fix the passenger side rear window on the '05 'vert.

The DIY route sounds a bit messy and complicated--my OLD air-cooled Beetles and VWs are a DREAM to work on, compared to these NBs!!!!!!!!

Anyone know of a national glass/body shop franchise that can do
the rear window fix, if I buy the repair kit and give it to them?

LOL

cheers........

Whoever is going to do it, will charge an arm and a leg for the labor. If you are afraid to tackle it by yourself then you are going to have to bite the bullet and pay someone.

The only other way is if your have a DIY friend that can take a stab at it. It is not that bad just time consuming.

Just had it done at a dealer on my 04 NBC driver rear side window. I have done the front regulator on my 2000 NB but after reading the Bentley and remembering the PIA it was on that front one on the 2000, I called the dealer. He quoted me a cost of $350.00. Thinking about the special tool the Bentley says you need at $78.00 and the stress of learning new profane language, I bit the bullet for the first time and let the dealer fix something out of warranty. Total inluding tax $368.00.

Who did it? Ancira or Rod East?

Rod East VW is the only dealer here in my opinion, They treat you good and I have bought two new NB's from them. Bad experiences with Ancira. Even though Ancira is like 10 or 15 miles closer and the without the I410 traffic mess, I still deal only with Rod East. I get the discount on parts from SWRI cash sale so it is a pretty good deal, Every time I have been in a rush and gone to Ancira instead of Rod East, they don't have the part. They can get it from Rod East the next day. Talk to Wayne, JR, or Roger at the Rod East parts counter and they will take care of you. Tell them you are with VOSA (VW Owners of San Antonio) and you will get a discount off retail.
