Default Air Bag Light

UGH! It is never-ending with this car!

Today, I get in Junior after class, fire him up, and the damn air bag warning light is on...

He is at the shop now awaiting a scan... Jesus.

I'm almost at my wits end with this car.

Initial question. Will the Air Bags still work even if the light is on, or is the whole system disabled because of it?

The front crash sensor was replaced under a recall last year...

I think the system is disabled when the light is on, but I'm not certain.

Yanett, the only way to know for sure what is causing the light is to get the car scanned by VAG-COM. Generic code readers won't pick up air bag codes. They will however, pick up CEL codes, which you said you have on as well. Try to see if an Autozone or the like will scan it for you. There is also a link around here posted that will tell you who has a VAG-COM local to you. Find someone and get in touch with them to see if they'll help you out and scan it for you for free, or maybe for a few bucks or a six pack.

Yay sagas lol...

I'm praying it is just like the seat belt harness... sounds like that is a common problem.

Still waiting to hear back...

upon reading around the forums and the internet, the consensus is that YES the system is DISABLED when the light is on.

Seat belt harness it was! 309 dollars to fix... so much for my rainy day fund!

180 for the part, and another 100 or so in labor.

Gets fixed tomorrow morning with any luck. Let's hope that the diagnosis was correct!

Yeeup... seat belt buckle it was. On the old one, where the wiring goes into the bottom of the buckle itself, the wire jacket had stripped back, exposing the wires.

The new one sits a little differently than the old one... it stands a tad taller, and sits a little further back both toward the console and the back of the seat, oh, and it doesn't have the fuzzy stuff on the backside of it lol.

I'm just glad my stupid airbag light isn't on anymore!
