Unhappy A/C Seal Failure - Same One Twice ??

I had an A/C no cooling issue upon delivery on July 31, 2009. Repaired under warranty and worked fine rest of the summer. Beginning this summer the A/C was somewhat cool at 62º but not cold as it should be. Just got the car back today (Gossett VW, Memphis) and they replaced the same seal that the other dealer replaced almost a year ago. Cooling fine now - here in the Mid-South where it is really needed.

Just wondering if this was faulty initial repair or just a random failure of the seal? The dealer said they had to remove the "from cap" to make the repair.
