Default Passenger Window Adjustment

We just bought a 2004 convertible and noticed that the passenger side window does not drop down when you go to open the door. This causes the door to hang up and will not shut properly. There is a slight tear in the fabric, so it looks like this has gone on for a while. When you pull the handle on the drivers door the window will drop enough for it to clear the top and allow you to open the door without rubbing the fabric.
My question - Is there an adjustment that I can get too that will fix this problem.

Thanks!
Kevin

There is no adjusment for the auto drop function of the door windows. You can adjust the angle of the window and the height of the window from two hex screws that are accessible from the bottom of the door but that will not fix the auto drop issue.
It sounds like the window regulator is not working properly which is an electrical problem that was very common on the '03-'04 verts.
In 2005, new updated regulators were used that drops the window when you unlock the door with the remote.
Make a visit to your dealer and see if you can get them to replace both regulators with updated ones. That's what I did when mine began to act up.

How long ago has that been, CGK? Were you still under warranty at the time?
Thanks.

Thanks for the response. The more I read about this issue, the more that I think it might be the switch on the door handle. The window rolls up and down fine, it is just not dropping enough to clear. I also had someone say that it might be a programming issue.

I would think that the door switch is probably alot less expensive than a new regulator. I am wanting to do the work myself, so any DYI would be welcomed.

Thanks!

My wife's NBC (2004) was doing the same thing. The window would go down when she opened the door and go back up again before she could get the door shut and the window would be stuck on the convertible top. Then it quit working all together. Now the passenger's side does the same thing. I have tried a couple of the solutions offered by other members in previous post, but they did nothing to fix the problem. I did find a place that sells the window regulator for $118.00. Where is the switch you are talking about, on the door handle eagle670???
Anyways has anyone replaced the window regulator thenselves? How much of a job is it? Any DIY instructions? Someone must have replaced this before?

Any help would be appreciated. Don't want to pay the absorbanant price the dealership will want to do this job.

Thanks in advance

Bob L.

THE ANSWER::
it is the control board for the window motor. it talks to all 4 window motors , the vert top computer and the convenience computer. when it goes hey wire it will really go hey wire. try jiggling the catch yoke of the door lock mechanism, and also closing it to locking with the door open and releasing with the handle. if the window moves its half inch jump then its the door lock mechanism (160.00) if not you have to buy a new window motor complete with the control board. BEWARE there are 2 versions for 2003-2004 verts. the originals and an updated version, so take your motor in to the dealer( will have part # on it and YOU WILL NEED THAT! old motor boards drop the window 1/2 inch, new ones, 2 inches as when you put the top down. save your old motor after replacing as it will still be good, just the board is bad. the complete board and motor will run you (275.00). make sure you leave the battery connected, but the key out of the ignition while replacing the motor!

Just replaced my passenger side 2 days ago. I jiggled my latch and nothing but the window still worked fine (up and down with the switch). It just did not drop the 1/4 inch to clear the top. Its really a simple job and I found a used latch out of an 03 hardtop (same basic part) and it works perfectly. So don't let anyone tell you it has to come out of a convertible. I wasn't sure if it needed to be out of an 03 or newer and I just so happen to find an 03 as that is my year car but I really don't think it matters what year you use.

Also, do a search on this site and youtube for latch replacement, there are is some good info to know before you tackle this job. Took me about an hour and a few tools.

Good luck with the fix!
