Default 06 convertible, $12,400 otd 53k miles?..ok?

Hi guys, I,m looking at a dealer owned 06 with 53'ooo miles, pastel blue with black top and leather.
Package 1 and auto. Not turbo. Clean and good condition, top and all. Is $11,500 plus tax, tag and doc fee.. $ 12'500 out the door.. Sound fair?

I realize only 14 month of power train warranty remains.

Pulled obdi codes, zero

When I adjusted the steering wheel all way down with a thud, it caused the horn to slightly bark. I could not duplicate by pounding on wheel, but every time when adjusted hard. Should ibe concerned?

Will be used for summer and fall fun, not a main vehicle.

Any advise on what else I should check for?

Thanks!

I'd make the horn issue a condition of the sale. As in, "make it disappear, or I won't buy this car." The last thing you wanty is an electrical gremlin haunting these cars.

No turbos in '06 and up...

Otherwise, sounds pretty fair...

Sounds like a VERY fair deal... way less than any I found around here when searching for mine a couple of months ago!

I bought it yesterday, very satisfied with a HUGE smile on my face.. baby blue with black top/interior.

I have all service records along with the clean Carfax containing nearly every oil change (dealer performed) from brand new until traded last month.

Turns out it's a one owner sold new by my dealer and lived 20 miles from here until traded in last month.

BTW, I tested 3 '06 NB convertibles in a row.. all their horns chirped when I lowered the steering columns with a thud.

First order of business will be disconnecting the DRL's.

That's German engineering (or Mexican drunk quality) to let you know NOT to thud the steering column. Do it too many times and the driver seat will auto-eject you to orbit!

Thank you very much, although I've been snooping around since 06 and this is my 3rd NB!

I won a new 99 NB from a radio station but traded it right away for a more suitable mommy and kids car. I also bought the NB convertible when they first came out and immediately resold for a small profit.

I really like this newest style NB.. Auto top and smaller flaps. This sporty wind screen makes all the difference too.

Wow... NBs have done you well. I'm still stuck with my '01 NB with 175,000 miles. Love the 'vert but wanted some variety so bought a Mini Cooper S convertible instead. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the next generation NB... due 2012. But then there's a Snap Orange that caught my eyes. Who knows?

Hmmm...this made me curious so I just went out to my '06 'vert and could not for the life of me get the horn to chirp. I slammed the wheel pretty hard.

Given that the horn pad is a bit weighty due to the fact it contains the AIR BAG, it would make sense that it might close the horn contacts momentarily when the movement of the wheel in the downward direction suddenly stops.....that is if the horn pad is in any way loose or not attached properly. I would have it checked immediately. You don't want the air bag deploying prematurely or worse....not deploying at all!

Thanks for the airbag suggestion. All 3 that I tested were '06 convertibles (mine plus two red's.. an automatic and manual tranny's). I will check the airbag situation. Thank's !

Best of luck with it!! Sounds to me like you got a really good deal. I bought my wife an '06 Beetle convertible in March...Harvest moon in excellent condition with around 50,000 miles. I paid around $15,000 minus my trade. They are tons of fun to drive, espeically with the top down. Enjoy!!
