Default car issues...

I have a 2003 NBC GLS 2.0...

So today was the first day I took my beetle out to drive in like almost a year! YES A YEAR!

long story short after doing some car repairs at the dealership and a car shop I tested the car out today and everything went by smoothly till I started heading home.

Once the stop light turned green and pressed onto the acceleration peddle and my car kind of like strut, I don't know how to describe it other then while pressing on the gas peddle it suddenly acted as if I pressed the brake and jammed up a bit, kind of jumped. Anyway this happened every time I stopped and accelerated.. At one time it made a loud noise like a "BUMP" sound and a squeak as if I suddenly hit the brake...

I know nothing about cars so excuse my description if it doesn't make any sense.

In the past week I have replaced:

over 10 codes at the dealership, including Oil Change, Spark Plugs, Headlight/Harness, Airfilter Replaced, Dipstick Tube Cracked, and a few other electrical stuff done anyway TOTAL: $492.38

BODY SHOP:
Timing Belt/Water Pump: TOTAL $445.38

BODY SHOP: (round 2)
Fan Motor/Thermostat: TOTAL $849.91

So after this I am pretty tight on $ everything was done and completed within the past 2 weeks...

at the dealership they told me it needed the following done:

SAP Bushings, 2nd AP part #: 06A133567A, no idea what bushings are?! cost $110

Trunk Struts, which are broken part #: 140827550f cost $140

Front Brakes, 5% life remaining, needs pads & rotors cost $521

at the shop I was told it needed:

right axle? can someone tell me what an axle is? is that like a wheel? cost $250

Front & Rear Shocks/Alignment COST $725

urg and don't get me started on my top!

and this is the first time it needs or has had work done, other than tire repairs, oil changes etc it has been a great, GREAT car!!!

ok so back to my issue and the stumbling/pulling it does once you hit on the gas peddle would that have to do with the brakes or could it be something completely different?

any comments would be appreciated!

IMO, stay away from the Stealaships, buy your parts online and have an independant VW mechanic do it. If possible, DIY,some of those repairs are not that hard.

Now, I am new to the New Beetle cars, but what you are paying is way too much because these are DIY jobs.

Front Brakes, 5% life remaining, needs pads & rotors cost $521

Front disk brakes are a easy and cheap. Most rotors can be be turned for $10 at the parts store. Disk brakes are a easy dIY job on most cars with disk brakes. If you don't want to do it yourself, places like Brake Check will price match, so shop around and get prices on paper, then bargin shop.

right axle? can someone tell me what an axle is? is that like a wheel? cost $250

Axle sell for prices less than $100 on the net, and some place even put them on the car for $100!
Auto Repair Air Conditoning CV Axles Steering Brakes San Antonio TX

Front & Rear Shocks/Alignment COST $725

The rear shocks are easy, some monroe shocks for the rear are as cheap as $20-$30,(http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,ca...,parttype,7556) did my rear shocks in the dark and it only took about a half hour. The easy way on the front struts is to buy them online/or parts warehouse and pay someone to put them on. The front struts are more difficult. Got my tires aligned for $45.

The axle is around $75.00 at O'Realy's, they have the hub nut sockets and the hex set needed.

The $75.00 axle is life time also

I may be wrong, if your parts number is correct, these are the SAP bushings for a few cents over $13

Get the vehicle out of that shop NOW! take to an independant shop for better pricing. most maint items can be done by any reputable shop for much less money. Always get a second opinion unless you have done your homework first. you can spend thousands and NEVER get the original problems addressed and you are the only one that loses. I just noticed you are in Dallas. I might be able to help if you want. PM me.

If you are hearing a 'bump' every time you hit the gas then have the motor mounts checked for looseness.
