Top won't go down

The wife's 03 top won't go down. The master window switch is also not working, so I can't do the reset.
The wife took the car to the stealership today. They said that it probably might be the master switch and that it would cost $500 to fix it. They also noticed that the window was starting to make a grinding noise and recommended that the regulator be replaced. In addition to that they came up with about $1k of other repairs that were needed. Total bill $2k.
This car has been a piece of junk since we bought it. This would be the second window regulator in one year. The door handle broke off the other day when my daughter was getting out of the car.
When my wife said she wanted a convertible, I thought the new beetle would be better than the domestic alternatives. Boy was I wrong. At least a domestic cars you can work on.


Sry to vent on you guys. Anyone know a independent shop that works on VWs in the Phoenix area.
