Default 2007 Triple White- No Interior Lights??

Hello All,

I just bought my baby last month and was wondering why there are no interior lights when we enter the into the car? Is there a kit that I can buy to light up the interior when we open the doors?- I also own a corvette convertible that has lights on the door panels and lights that shine down from the rear view mirror.

I have an '05 NBC that is probably not much different than yours. The interior lighting is terrible. And I have an '01 Corvette Vert so I can relate to the difference. You should, however, have the one light in the bottom of the mirror. It's on a 3 position switch. off/on with doors/on. If the switch is in the off posistion, it does not come on when the doors are opened. Just like the Vette as a matter of fact. Perhaps the bulb is blown, or a fuse. The backseat? Forget it, no light at all.

We, used Convertible buyers have a unique problem, in that we never know how many times she got "caught in the rain". Water getting into electrical caomponents in Verts can cause a multitude of problems that hardtop drivers never experience.

Adding underdash lights is an easy mod. A couple of us are trying to figure out how to add lights in the back that would look "correct".

I have a 2003 and the light on the mirror comes on when I unlock the door with the remote. And yes the lighting is very poor, normal new beetle quirk.

I replaced my under the mirror light with a 9-LED light, and added some footlights:

So I would imagine you have a tech somewhere here on the org at how to install these lights in your NBC? I too have an NBC, an '07 model but still with the same lack of interior lighting.

Any help would be greatly appreciated by me and quite possibly more on here. Quick question here...aren't you the gentleman who plays trombone?

Jerry

Hi Jerry,
Yes, I do play the trombone.

Here's the light that I use in my rear view mirror, and it's pretty bright with the 9 LEDs:
High Intensity 39mm Fuse Style LED

My car uses the 39mm fuse-style light, but I think some models use a 42mm light. You'll need to measure what you have in there now, but I'll have to tell you, those things are hard to measure...there's not a lot of diffrence in 39mm and 42mm.

The footlights I use are very simple to install...they plug into the cigarette lighter, which makes some people not want to use them. I'm sure they could be wired in if you were knowledgeable about wiring. I don't find them that much trouble to just reach down and plug them in when I want them. Other than that, they're just two tubes of LED lights about 8 inches long or so, and I have them velcroed in under the dash. After changing to larger pieces of velcro, they haven't came loose in approximately two years.

to install these it would be best to wire them off of the rear view mirror lamp contacts so that you could control the well lights with the rear view mirror and the convenience module would kick all these lights on when the car was unlockedd to enter or door opened to exit. you would have to run wire through the windshield pillar down to the dash from the rear view mirror. if you use LEDs everywhere there will be a very minimal increase in amperage use. just my 2 cents. the light to use under the dash would be the glove box light. i think you could also install lights in the main steel body bow over the back seat in the convertible top, or also under the front seats facing the rear wells. again glovebox lights, or maybe a dome light from a NB sedan. also- a great light to use if visible would be the vanity mirror lights in the windshield frame.
