Default Tiptronic issues on 03 NBC

I use the select shift during the winter and this winter it has been acting up. The shifter slides over real easy, but does not always put it into select shift mode. More often than not, nothing happens when I slide it over.

I have been doing reading on forums about a tiptronic switch and the magnet issue that many have been having. I am just wondering if either of these fixes will correct my issue.

My dad will have no problems fixing it, if the problem lies with the mechanics in the center console area. I am just trying to figure out a solution and find any parts before he attempts to solve the issue.

Any help around this issue would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Exclamation Possible Warranty!

I'm no tranny guy, but...

Depending on your mileage, and the original sale date of your bug, there was just an extened warranty issued by VW to 7 yrs and 100k miles. There is a very recent thread in this regard, here: Tiptronic Auto - VW Extended Warranty

The extended warranty is for the valve body inside the trans for harsh shifting concerns. sounds like the magnet on the rubber slider that goes around the shifter handle has fallen off or is out of place. remove the center console and than all you have to do is glue the magnet to the slider.
