Thumbs up Adding Alarm Light to 2009 NBC Passengers Door

My 2009 NBC did not have the alarm/security warning light installed on the passengers door just a black plug. Obviously deleted for cost as with many other little niceties. I do not know which model year this began. Follow other door panel removal posts for door panel removal, its easy.

Installation is simple just takes a little time to accomplish. Parts needed, done as I did, requires the LED light and bezel from a convertible - either door. The door wiring cable can be from either a convertible or a sedan. The door wiring cable is needed to get the LED cable connector and the two wires, one to ground and one terminated wire to the door control module connector pin 2. Removing the wire from the connector is a little tricky. Need a very small wire or pin on each side of the wire terminal to release the little wings then pull out from the back. Once out, just very slightly bend the little keepers out so when re-inserted into the connector it will lock in place. First practice on a wire terminal not needed to learn the technique.

Run the two wires (violet/blue and brown/blue) along the existing cable and secure using black tape once all hooked up. Splice in the brown/blue ground wire to the brown/blue in the wire harness about midway on the door and tape. To insert the violet/blue wire into the door control connector pin 2, release the connector slide lock and pull off connector. Look for the little violet plastic piece on the connector and slide it out just a little. This is a secondary terminal lock. Insert the wire noting the terminal orientation and snap in and close the violet slide keeper. Reinstall the door control module connector.

Pop out the black LED hole plug and press in the LED housing in the top of the door panel. Be sure to align it with the LED plug. The holder and LED housing are keyed. I had to remove the two little "wings" on the LED housing and using clear silicone glue to secure the LED into the housing and door panel. I must have been missing something here. Reinstall door panel and your done.

I only have a blinking light on my drivers side in my '99.

Good write up!

My 2003 Vert (sense sold) had them on both doors. Somewhere along the way the passengers door light was deleted.

Weird. Not sure why VW would not have the passenger door light, add it, and then take it away again.

Question

Ditto, my '05 also has both. Perhaps it has something to do with the alarm being set and not the door being locked. Let me explain.

When I lock the doors with the remote, both lights flash, alarm set!
When I unlock the driver's door with remote, alarm chirps off and ONLY driver's door unlocks and only that light goes off.
Double click and the passenger door also unlocks and that light goes off.

As it is primarily an indicator of the alarm being set, it really doesn't serve a purpose on the passenger door other than to tell you it is still locked if you forget to double click.
Perhaps, the earlier '99, didn't have the dbl click to unlock the passenger door, perhaps the later models deleted this feature.
I do not remember my '00 having the dbl click/pass door unlock feature. And my '02 is down and dead right now, so I'd have to review it's OM.
It may have also been part of a "package" on J.Arce's '04, my '05 (it has everything), and on the later models.

All that make sense?

I have to hit the button on the remote twice to get the passenger door to unlock. I have a GL trim level though, so I wonder if maybe that has something to do with the light not being on the passenger side? I've taken apart both panels, and IIRC the black piece around the lock is actually smaller on the passenger side, meaning the light hasn't been blocked off, but never there to begin with.

The passenger door unlock is programmable with vag-com for one or two clicks to open. There is a post here or maybe on vwvortex describing the procedure and what code to change. I did it on my 03 NBC. Easy to do with vag-com.

Just an FYI.....I was recently in an accident that totalled my 2007 new beetle convertible....which had the alarm indicator lights on both doors. Just bought a 2008 to replace it....there are a few minor changes, one being that now only the driver side door has the indicator light....passenger door has a plastic cap.

Sorry to hear that you totalled your 07. Look closely and you will probably find many more "cost increase deletions".
