When I owned a 03 NBC, it was hard to close. Just had to slam hard and follow thru with hand pressure. Never found a fix/adjustment for this either. My 09 NBC seems OK to close.

I think that you will find that all the NBCs have that characteristic. Just push it down hard.

My '03 was tough to close, it would take a couple of slams to drive the latch home. I finally got used to just putting my fingers on the edge of the lid, pushing down quickly, letting go, and slamming the lid down like that, hard. It would close everytime that way.
The '06 is MUCH easier to close, although I use the same method, just not as hard or as fast. I have never pushed on the emblem at all, I'd be afraid to... plus I don't want my prints on the chrome... ![]() |

Mine is an 03, used the emblem to close, bent the emblem, had to replace the emblem. I use the lower right hand corner to close, has always been hard. Its a VW New Beetle!!!!

Mine takes a firm push to close...I've pretty much gotten used to it.

Update:
Took off the plastic panel and decided to tackle the situation, going on one of plamettoguy's posts http://newbeetle.org/forums/new-beet...ont-latch.html and the only thing I achieved was to not be able to latch the lid ![]() So after taking the cover out and back in a couple of times to try two different things, major PITA between the cold weather, pinching my fingers a few times and the amazing amount of space in the trunk (I had to take EVERYTHING out) I am back to square one. I am thinking that if I raise the pin's position The lid should latch easier IDK, I guess I'll find out.I did see that there is vertical adjustment to the pin where the latch engages but I did not have the correct Torx tip to adjust. I can see that the plastic cover that's over that latch in the lid is bulging where it meets the two rectangular spring loaded pieces on either side of the pin (see photo) as if the latch is pushing too hard on those rectangular blocks. ![]() More to come if I tackle this again over the weekend ![]() |
