Is it just the "cylinder" turning, or is the whole housing. Sounds as if the housing itself is turning, in which case you need to try and hold it while you turn the key. If this is the proble, once you open the lid you can simply lift out the storage pocket (spread your fingers inside it and lift, or lift out the CD Changer. Once you have access, you will have access to the back side and should be able to tighten the cylinder housing in the console body.

I don't have the lock in my '05. It was deleted after '04, but Tico4Life has the '04 and might be able to add some information.

The whole panel on the passenger side comes out and you can access the lock (and anything else) from there. To remove the side panel move the pass seat to its most forward position and tilt the backrest forward.

Refer to the pics from there to remove panel (21) and access the lock.

I had an issue with the lock on my center console. The tumbler went. I had VW fix it as I was under warranty at the time and had my 6 disc changer in there.
