Default Center Consoles

Ok I REALLY dislike my center console. Well no, I really dislike the cup holders. What I want is 2 accessible and functional cup holders in front and two in the rear. I dont need an ash tray in the back, my kids dont smoke and I wont allow anyone to smoke in my NBC!

Anyone have some pics of the different center consoles that are available? Mods? Suggestions?

Thanks!

Did you say "cup holders"? What cup holders?

Thumbs up

Ditto on the sux factor, but if yours is the same as mine ("05 NBC), swivel cup holders to the front, with the armrest pad that slides forward, I'm not sure, with the shifter and EB that they could have done any better job.

I don't have a problem, because I don't allow anyone to drink in my NBC (except me of course), and I learned years ago, how to drive with a full, hot coffee cup in one hand and a cigarette in the other. Never spill a drop, or drop an ash. I'm still working on the texting thing, right now I have to put down the coffee or the cigarette to text.

Seriously though, your question got me to thinking. Where would you put a cup holder? No place to put it in the console, and no where to do a pull out in the dash. Years ago, in response to fast food drive thrus and America's addiction to soda pop, there was this transition period in vehicles re cup holders. GM had an OEM underdash mount, add-on cup holder for their trucks and early "Burbs. Fit the '95 and older. I see them occasionly on eBay. Holds two cups, but they are somewhat shallow, so forget the 44oz. (geez... real addict), 7-11 fountain drinks. As I remember of the size, it would mount ideally under the center dash console. You would, however, loose that little red "down" light that lights the front of your console, the cup and powerport area, and you might also loose use of the powerport (I say powerport since I already know it's not a cigarette lighter in you Bug).

I'll have a look and see if I can find a pic of one, or if not, set a watched search, and post back if I can snag a pic of one.

Wally World, the Corner Auto Parts Store, and many carwashes also sell the kind that hook and hang on your door.

I'm gonna' follow your thread for others thoughts, comments, and suggestions.

My last NB was a '01 coupe and hte cup holders were off set to the side of the shifter closer to the passenger and worked great. I'm going to hit a local auto recycler and see what he has. Worse come to worse I'll buy a couple and fabricate my own. I'm transitioning back from Porsche's and didnt have cup holders in any of mine, it's nice not to have a hot cup of coffee endangering my jewels!

Sorry for my '03 nB ignorance, but are your cup holders fixed, or do they swivel? If they're the fixed ones, fellow orger "bugshop" makes a cupholder for our "fixed" screw-in cup holders.

EDIT:
Just checked out Bugshop's cup holder thread. They only work up to the 2001/half models- sorry
