Default Drivers side rattle

Need help from the vert gurus (and you too Morav)

A rattle produced by the driver's side window against the rear 1/4 window (I think) has been developing and I can find why this is happening. Bot windows line up perfectly, both drop w/o a problem when I drop the top and both sides drop as they should when I open the door. I read the few old threads about window rattles but they all seem to point to a faulty regulator but mine are all good.

Any ideas? Its driving me insane Is it a normal rattle in NBC's, I mean do I have to just get used to it? I don't think I can

Two thoughts here...

1)My driver's side window often rattles for awhile, and then stops after a short time, like it's adjusting itself or something. I usually don't get too bothered about it, because it always quits. I'm assuming yours doesn't stop, though.

2)Another rattle was driving me crazy, and seemed to be worsening as time went on. Especially on bumps it would be louder. The sound seemed to be bouncing around, making it hard to tell where it was coming from. I did notice that I never heard it with the top down. I just assumed that the wind noise drowned it out.

However, I later read this here on the Org:
Convertible Top Squeak

The solution was two inexpensive rubber parts:
1Y0871469B
VW dealers can order them for you for just a couple of dollars or so.

I really couldn't tell it, but the squeak was coming from where the top meets the windshield. I could always hear it, but couldn't ascertain its source.

Hmm, I wouldn't call it a squeak, but that is something to consider, when I was on the pass seat last night I thought it was happening between the windshield frame and the top but then I thought it got better as I pushed on the window a bit. I does happen only when you go over bumps and manholes or such, as described on that thread.

It think its worth the try and only a couple of bucks. I'll definitely go to my VW dealer tomorrow and get them.

Thanks, I'll keep you posted

You may want to call ahead in case they need to order it. My dealer didn't have it when I first called. Ask for two of them, part #1Y0871469B (rubber bushing).

I guess mine was a lower frequency sound than you would normally associate with a squeak...It was more of a rubbing, annoying sound.

had a similar "rattle" near driver's door...it turned out to be the hanger clip on our 2006 NBC which was pop rivited to a top frame support. Put some black electrician's tape around the hanger clip and this secured it some and reduced "rattle". A more permanent repair would be to remove and repalce the rivit.

when i got my 03 vert the upper drivers door hinge was loose (the stud nut is behind the A pillar trim) this issue was related to the latch bar being loose....if the latch bar is loose the door wont close correctly or be supported properly while driving.....it was really quite noisy....i would think you would know if this was the case. anyway if it is loose line the latch plate and lock mechanism up with the facotry paint lines and re-torque them....be careful if you tighten the drivers door hinges as the upper hinge is very close to the windsheild and one slip of the socket can cause you to feel like a TOTAL dumbass after you crack your windsheild (like me!)

Here is an online source for the rubber buffers, verify these are the right ones, but I think so.

Minimum $10 to ship, however from these guys. Plus, it needs a hole in the center.
The actual Mfg Part# 1Y0871469B looks like this:
