Default noisy wiper blades

I have searched and searched, but I haven't found any other post that deals with this issue. Can anyone reccommend a brand of winshield wipers that aren't so noisy. I don't know if this is a 'vert issue or all bugs, but mine are crazy noisy. It's not the motor.

What kind of noise? Like squeaking against the windshield? How old are the wipers? I seem to get about 6 months to a year out of a set of blades. I've had decent luck with Bosch Microedges. I want to get a set of Icons to try, but I can never find the right ones in an auto parts store.

It's just that they're extraordinarily loud, my passengers have even commented on it. I've had my car for 2+ years and this is the only real complaint I've had - which is why I'm still a 'new member' after 2+ years

Hmmm... Come to think of it, I've seldom had the windshield wipers on... but I don't ever drive the 'vert in the rain, either, if I can help it...

I think I would have noticed noisy operation... is it the motor or mechanical linkage, or the blades against the glass?

It's the blades against the glass. It's almost like it's too powerful. I am sorry but I don't know how to express in writing what it sounds like. Usually I'm good at expressing myself with words and all I can come up with is loud. I used to have a nissan altima and it could be the difference in what I'm used to.

Funny you should write about this....I've had my beetle about a month now and today I was using my wipers and thinking the same thing, they are very annoying!
It's sort of like they are rubbing the glass too hard or something like that. It's not the motor noise.
Let me know if you find a solution to this. In the meantime...squeak, squish squash lol lol

Question

I'm not doubting you guys, but honestly until the next time it's raining and I can give it a listen, I'm just not sure. I can't say I have ever heard the sound of a wiper blade moving over wet glass (dry glass and squeaking, but not wet glass). I'm going to check it out, but I would think more the sound of the wiper transmission (not the motor) operating than the blade moving on the glass. Or could it be the "flipping" of the blade when it changes direction at the end of each sweep? Y'all have got my curisity up. If it is, in fact, a sound caused by friction of the blade against the glass, i would think a coating of RainX or the like would lessen the noise. Just don't use WD40! LMFAO! Regardless of the source, I suspect it is more accentuated in a NB because I suspect the domed roof and expanse of forward cabin space creates a certain acoustic condition which may not exist in other vehicles.

I have Icons on several of my vehicles and as I replace others this is what I will use. However, the Bosch wiper blade application chart does not list blades for the NB. This could be why you are having trouble finding them.

Good gosh, go figure... Bosch-VW, VW-Bosch, who'da thunk it?

M.
