Default Shelter for my buggie

I don't have a garage and don't want to have to deal with a car cover so I'm looking to buy one of those shelter (garages). Does anyone have one and do you recommend a certain kind? We have looked at some and they seem really cheaply made and we have a lot of wind here where I live so I would really want something that is going to be sturdy enough to park "buggie" in.

Thanks for your input.

Ask fellow orger SixChuter. He has the setup you're talking about. He's an Oklahoman, so He knows a little something about the fierce winds.

I have set up many of those Sheltlogic sheds like they sell in BJ's to stack hay for my horses. I'm sure that is what your talking about. What I do is set 6x6 posts into the ground at 4 points & fasten the 2" pipes to the post with pipe clamps. would also recommend building wooden doors & frame if your going to drive in and out all the time. They do shed snow very well. The other thing to consider is a floor because the moisture coming up through dirt will damage a car much faster than a paved driveway. I do agree about keeping a convertible inside. I myself for the 1st time ever keep my bug inside because of the top

I have had my carport for nearly 2 years. It is well constructed and very solid. I live in Oklahoma and it has survived some violent winds. Of course, a garage would be better but I only have a single car garage and Lily lives in there. My carport has done a great job keeping Gandalf out of both the storms and the direct sunshine. If you need photos of any of the parts and pieces to compare to the units you are looking at I would be happy to do that for you. I also would recommend you have it mounted to a driveway or concrete slab if possible.

Thanks so much for the info. Those shelters are hard to find here in Massachusetts and the ones they sell are so cheaply made. Do you have a photo of yours my any chance?

Thanks again

Thanks for the info. Wow you have horses too! I didn't think to look in B.J.'s for one of those shelters. We will have to try there on the weekend. We looked in Benny's and they have some but real "cheesey" also they had some in Lowes but again either really cheap or just too big for "Buggie" Will let you know how it turns out!

Had the top down today and it was great! A little warm in the sun but I don't care I was just happy to see the sunshine!

Well I had Horses until 2 years ago. I sold them because work was taking up so much of my time in this economy. I am going to rebuild a shelterlogic building this weekend. I keep most of my tractor implements in it but I had a mishap this winter and need to relocate it. I'll take some pictures and post them so you can see how I like to set them up. They are 12'x 24' If you have the space for it they can never be too big.

A carport shelter is a great idea but is not enough for a convertible. I'd go the extra step atleast cover the top with a custom cover or homemade quilt or bedsheet. Grey, beige tops show stains and crease marks easily. IMO beetle convertibles (and all other soft tops) are high maintainence, welcome to the club.

We live on a farm so we have some space to put up the shelter. Will look forward to your photos if you get the chance. Thanks for all your help and info it's appreciated.

Don't take lots of pics of the carport but here are a couple. They'll give you an idea of how it is constructed. Hope it helps.
