Default Top buzzer ? ? ?

Newbie here so please excuse me if this has been asked before. We just bought a used 2007 new Bettle convertable. When we put the top down the warning light (beside the tempgauge on the windshield fram) & buzzer doesent go out/off. All the owners manual says is to take it in for service. What can I do to fix this myself?

Thanks
Dan

I've just had my 07 bug covert for a month & the same thing happened to me. I'm hoping my answer will work for you too. Keep your finger on the switch until the light goes out & it dings at you that it is complete. It takes an extra second or two beyond when you think it's all the ways down & quit pushing. I hope that makes sense & helps!!!

Ditto, here is the top operation guide out of an '04 Owner's Manual. Don't have the '07 scanned into a doc, but the operation should be the same. I'll read the '07 and verify when I get a chance.

I think I see this question from almost everyone who comes on here having just bought a NBC! (lol). I had the same issue when I bought my '05. I'll also look at the '07 Manual, but your top should have a regular servicing as shown in the Maintenance Section.

Yep, holding the button worked magic for me too, hope it works for you. My friend tried EVERYTHING and we couldn't go anywhere. And as I bought the car in October it was the last nice day 'til the following spring. I had to wait 6 months to drive with the top down

3 most common things I've seen cause this...

1 - People not holding the switch long enough for the top to fully open AND be locked down. After the top moves to it's open position, there are mechanical locks on the left and right side and secure the top down. The motors make a grating noise when they operate and newbies will often time let go of the switch when they hear that noise thinking they are causing damage.

2 - The top position switch is bad. Switch F171 (refer to factory wiring diagram) can go bad and the part that sends a "closed top" signal sticks even after the top is opened up some. Then when the switch gets to the "open top" signal, the Roof Electronics module gets confuses because how can it be both open and closed at the same time, thus stops operation of the top when it is about 90% open.

3 - Junk. As in people put junk behind the rear head rest and it slides down to the sides and gets in the way of the frame to it can't fully open. Often times the top, when opened, will look lopsided. I've seen magazines, various kids tops, small camping stool, umbrellas and my all time favorite... tupperware container with rotted chicken and rice.

IT was us just not holding the switch down long enough. It goes off after the locks are set.

Thanks everyone, you saved me a trip to the dealer.
