Default NBC Leather Seats

Does anyone know what year seats are compatible with a 2004 NBC? I'd like to upgrade to leather, but don't know what seats work, and what seats don't.

Ex.: Will a set of 2006 NBC seats work?

I realize that the seats have to be from another vert.

If your NBC has the two-stage airbags (deactivation light in the center dash), then any 2004.5+ NB seats will work as VW switched all of the seats to have the releases on the upper corners. The older seats would have clearance issues due to the release handles hitting the B-pillar (if the car doesn't have dual-stage).

Now, I'm not sure if they changed the wiring or the shape of the plugs (as happened around 2001), but I would imagine the seats would plug right in.

Miffmole,

Why don't you take it to an auto upholstery shop and get a quote for a leather upgrade and keep the seats that you already have?

These shops are listed under the yellow pages category of "Automobile Seat Covers, Tops and Upholstery". In our lingo they are called "Trim Shops".

One of these shops can install a leather upgrade like Katzkin Leather and give you a warranty. Very nice. My shop has been doing these for 17 years. Much better than factory leather upholstery.

That's pretty much the conclusion I've come too...I guess it's better to already have your leather with you coming in, right?
What would be an average installation price for a job like this be in your shop? I have side air bags, so that would have to be accounted for.
Thanks.

Like everything else, prices aren't standard. Up in New England or West Coast (read "Left Coast") where everything is more expensive, the cost might be around $1600. Here in Central Florida, price would be $1300 to $1400.

Don't worry about the airbags in the seat. That is a non-issue. Upholstery comes airbag ready. All (most?) installers in this business are knowledgeable about the installation of these. The manufacturers spend big $$$$$$ on development of the proper materials and testing that they have gotten it right.

Good luck.

Would the labor be that, or is that for everything?

For that money it better be everything. It would be cheaper to buy a set out of another car and then it's just a DIY r&r.
