I have been using a Rainex combo soap and wax stuff that works very well. Of course, the wax part doesn't take the place of waxing the NB now and then, but it helps keep the bug shiny.

I use either Zymol, Zaino, or the new Eagle One bucket less car wash stuff.

The Eagle One stuff is awesome, just don't use too much, or you'll get super suds everywhere! It smells yum too.

I've been using Meguiar's Deep Crystal car wash but lately I've been using their Gold Class car wash. Target had the big bottles of it on sale for $4. I love Target!

I use Meringers also. Great stuff their tire cleaner in the hot pink spray bottle is really good too. Especially if you have grooves on your rims.

Dishwashing liquid is for dishes and is designed to be a very aggrssive product. If you are trying to maintain that gorgeous finish you spent hours to put on, you really need a good quality car soap.

Dishwashing liquid will strip your car of all wax. It's only recomended that you use dish soap prior to waxing/glazing, or polishing, even claybaring. Why fill your clay bar full of old wax! This will help ensure a nice even finish to your polishing and/or wax.

I use Meg's Gold Class and Armour All, but what's important is that is a car soap.

Also, you might try the two bucket method: One for soap water and one for rinsing your mitt/sponge. This helps prevent swirls and micro scratching of the paint by removing the grit in a seperate bucket. You don't want to put that grit back into your sponge and then rub it into your paint. It also greatly extends the sudsing of your soap water.

Now get out there and wash and wax your Bug. Winters coming!

no question hands down best car wash ever:

Mr. Clean AutoDry Car Wash System. (i've got the basic - the Pro Series just has a more powerful jet sprayer.)

i use that plus a new microfiber sponge every time ($2 at Wal-Mart), and it looks like i just waxed it. no other car wash i've tried comes close. plus, with this you dont hafta dry the car after you wash it.

My Dad washed his Corvette with dish soap for 15 years. Then he had to have it repainted because the soap had dried out the paint and it was cracking all over the place like a dried lakebottom.

NEVER use dish soap.
