Exclamation Grab a shop vac.. Do it...Do it NOW !

So, most of you like me are finishing up getting those leaves out of the yard and cursing because your neighbor is too lazy. But don't forget about getting the leaves out of the car.

I noticed that when I popped the hood, leaves just collected up against the fresh air intake grill, unseen from outside with the hood closed.

Grab a shop vac, pop the hood, and get those out of there before they get mulched by the wind, rain, snow etc. and make it up towards the in-cabin air filter.

I read about people amazed with the amount of crap when they replaced this filter, and I can see why this is. With the hood closed, you see nothing, but with it open, its like a kids leaf collection in there.

I also noticed that the hatch can harbor quite a bit of debris, especialy around the hinge area, but since most people open this at least once a month it's less of a problem. Get those things out of there. Don't let anything that harbors moisture stay in there.

Leaves? Oh! Those things that are just like cactus needles only bigger! No leaves around here. Just dust, rocks and cactus.

When I changed the cabin filter it was so packed with leaves that the ECU was burried in them why didn't they put some sort of mesh over the holes?

Default Freaking Leaves!!!!

I have enough leaves at my house to have a leaf raking party for all members of newbeetle.org.

Look at a picture of my house on the House link in Misc. chat.

I will have to take a look under my hood tonight as I'm sure there is a build up of leaves there that I haven't noticed as it hasn't been car washing weather.

Ed

yep. every day of the week, i have to get pine straw needles and dadgum oak leaves out from around the hood, especially near the windshield wipers, the trunk and the sunroof. ready for spring to arrive. i need to vacuum really good around the sunroof, read alot on the org about the drainage lines getting clogged and water will leak in the car.

... its the area under the wiper blades, so I remove the wiper arms and take off the plastic cover (which is pretty easy) you have to open the hood and look under the wipers to see it... I used my boyfriends tool kit to get the wipers off and I was able to clean all under there... you can see where the intake is, and its crazy how much stuff just "sits" there waiting to be "sucked" in.
