Default Steering Wheel Refinish

I know this won't apply to all ... except us Sport and maybe the TS and CC crowd.

My steering wheel has a stock leather covering. The areas that I hold the wheel the most are getting dull, but the leather is still holding up fine. It seems that there is a clearcoat over the leather that has disappeared in the areas I hold it most. What would be the best process for refinishing the leather to preserve and make it match the rest of the wheel again? I mean ... polishing .... spraying with whatever is on there now??? Don't really want to recover it, at least not until it is much worse.

You might try
Mother's Leather Reconditioner or
Farnam Leather New Liquid Glycerine Saddle Soap.
Both are very good.

For the record any New Beetle that had leather seats by defualt got the leather steering wheel and shift knob.

And yes its the exact same wheel except on the turbo s they got those ultra cool lil alloy inserts.

So Tom, does that mean BB is special since she has that plain wheel (which I love) and her LEATHER seats

I already feel special having a TAN interior

Tom ..... I had a feeling that would be the case, but since the Sport and S have non perferated leather seats and steering wheel cover, I wasn't sure if the GLS and GLX wheel would have the same covering.

As for saddle soap, that is more of a cleaner, I don't think it will restore the shine to the cover.

I was thinking of using some neutral color shoe polish, I think black would dye my hands. I still don't think it will last as long as the OEM finish has, I am certain the OEM finish lasted 70K ... 45K at least that I had it.
