Your thoughts? A waste of money or a nice extra detail.

Valve stem caps? I bought them at the dealer. The only time I think of them is when another VW parks next to me and I wonder if they are going to swipe them!

An essential and tasteful mod.

I have .:R-line caps, here's a nice beefy VW set I just got for the wifey's T-Reg: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ksid=p3907.m29

As sad as it sounds, when you go to Roswell, take them inside at night...many have been stolen in the hotel parking lots.

They do make a set that lock...but they are more expensive and I think the only outlet I could find was from Australia through ebay last I checked.

I crank 'em down really tight. My biggest problem is they fade after about 2 years.

I've had two sets, both of which were stolen. I have another set now but I only use them at car shows.

that's what i was thinking b'c of the theft and fading issues - get a set just for shows. i've seen them pretty cheap on ebay.

what i'm looking for are the lug covers, i don't care so much if they have the VW logo, but i feel like i need something. (i show my Turbo S as stock, so i'm not going to swap the wheels from the 17" alloys). any thoughts/recommendations?

For the record, my stem caps have never been stolen and I've been to a lot of states and a lot of shows. So..just the luck of the draw, I guess

I wonder if the black ones fade or do you have the black ones?
Thought about the blue ones but figured they would fade easy.

i had all 4 stolen at waterfest last year. autozone sells attractive caps for about $3 that you could use for the everyday stuff. my latest set has been on the car safely for over a year. i chalk them up to something you'll lose at some point anyway.

My .:R caps are black and are totally faded now, u can barely see the script, Santa needs to bring new ones.

BTW, the VW logo caps at the dealer are only $8.

What has the world come to when we need locking valve caps.

I know, that's sad, but some people are just downright ignorant. They will steal a $0.99 Jack-in-the-box antenna ball!! I've had two stolen, so I know.

This thread made me think about an old navy prank. when the valve caps are on spread a thin coat of prussian blue layout dye to the sides. It is used by machinists to check fit. It is waterproof and doesn't dry. it also stains skin for weeks. You would need to wear gloves to remove it when you remove the caps but whoever steals the caps would have a reminder of the errors of their ways.

Oh yea, only do that if you do your own maintenance as your mechanic might be diligent enough to chech your air pressure and do not forget it yourself.

Valve stem caps add weight to the valve stems and the extra stress can cause leaks.

What happens is the faster the car goes, the more your valve stems want to bend towards the outside of the wheel. Porsche designed valve stem supports to prevent leaks from developing, since these cars are daily driven on the autobahn and give their valve stems quite a workout.

Anyway, take it or leave it but I'd never have those caps on my car.

Ahhh, prussian blue. Fun stuff

I don't have any valve caps but have been considering getting some as part of fixing up my NB.
