Default Rusty Wheels?

Hello all,

I have some surface rust on my wheels. Any Idea on how to get it off? It is this wheel. It is like washing and not drying the wheel, and the next day, rust. It won't wipe off. Any ideas?

I had that on my '68 all the time--cheap chrome replacement bumpers, cheap coatings on wheels. I used a chrome polish all the time to clean up my bumpers--it would prolly do the wheels too.

Hey thanks a bunch Bill. The wheels are brushed aluminum or something like that. I will try the chrome polish. Thanks again!

Try naval jelly on the bumper. Any hardware store should have it.

The wheels....... was there trim rings on there at one time? It looks like from the pictures that something of the sorts was on there and rubbed the finish thin? The rust by the spokes is probably from a thin coating of the finish and age is slowly working its way in there.

Wink Old School light Rust trick, NOT pitted rust !

Hi,

This is Marc the NEW Ringo, not snoopy thats my wife. We came across your post and I wanted to share an old school trick with you that I learned some time ago. Here we go all you need is :

a bowl of water
a roll of aluminum foil

Yep that is it, dont laugh it really works on light rust. But you will have to seal the wheel afterwards with some polish so the rust wont come back.
To apply simply dip foil in water then rub it on the rust and watch the rust disappear... Go ahead and try it you know you want tooo,,

water or coca cola works rag soaked in coca cola will also eat the rust off of stubborn bolts..its a wonder that something that will eat rust is still allowed to be sold as a beverage
