Talking Black Car+Beige Seats....

Eeek. I bought the car, the seats left a little to be desired. Somewhat dirty. Then the rain came with my window slightly cracked open and turned a portion of the seat brown. Then I put up with it forever, until recently. I got fed up with it to the point that I started looking into every option. I started with fabric cleaner, that teased the stains somewhat, then on to a scrub brush drowned in simple green diluted with water, which again, teased the stains and created new spots. So I went out and got myself a machine called Little Green by Bissell. Now it doesn't say that it was meant for autos but I've read of people using it and figured what did I have to lose?

It was about 90 bucks, and you can buy it at your local Searsmart (K-mart). There's also a "pro" version that heats water, but I couldn't find it. It's a baby steam cleaner, and it's somewhat cumbersome but it worked for me. I spent about 3.5 hours cleaning both front seats. The attachment it came with isn't so great about letting you control it's spray for the formula and hot water, but if you fiddle with easily spraying the seat, you'll get it. It comes with a sample of the formula it needs but in my infinite wisdom, I picked up two bottles of it and didn't even notice it came with a sampler and supposedly, if you have pets, they have a pet odor and stain remover. I don't have any pics because its now dark and the best I have to offer is a camera phone picture, but I hope it looks as good in the morning as it was looking before it got dark.

Happy New Beetle'ing! :-)

Thanks for the tip Jake. Yep, the tan seats leave little to be desired. And like you say, spot cleaning only 'teases' the spots. I've tried spot-cleaning, and the end result at times looks worse than initially started. I sure hope your method works. The pics will be great.

Here's some (blurry) pictures. Not perfect, but I don't expect much more out of light color seats with 6 years of use and almost 80k of abuse. (20k and 1 year of which are mine)...

I clean my seats with a bottle of resolve and a soft bristle brush and get the same results. But hey, if you want to spend the extra money on a steam cleaner, go for it!
