Default cleaning dashboard?

I just bought a 2000 New Beetle. It is in great shape except the part of the dashboard (I guess that is what it is called) that goes next to the inside windshield. It is sort of a mesh cloth type material and it has dust or pollen all in it. It looks like someone tried to clean it, made a mess and gave up. Any hints or tips on how to make it look better?

The dash on these cars are a PIA! The part closest to the windshield gets scratched up REAL easy. Don't put any pressure on it or it scratches. The door handles & window switch surrounds are made of the same crappy material. The other part, the honeycomb, comes clean with a baby wipe & then a little armor all or maguires (sp) wipes.

Default RE: dashboard

Thank you for your reply. I wonder if mine is different. It really is like a mesh fabric. It does have two speakers in each side of it. One is about the size of a salad plate and the other about the size of a saucer. Where the speakers are it is just fabric. The other part is the fabric with something a little firm underneath. It isn't scratched. It is either faded, or the mesh in the fabric is filled with dust or pollen. Any ideas on this? Thanks in advance.

Are you talking about the columns that goes up along the windshield, or the black(?) dashboard that lays flat in front if the windshield?

The black dashboard that lays flat in front of the windshield. The center is plastic--but the two parts in front of driver and passenger is fabric. Is this not how it is in most 2000 beetles?

The circles are speakers, and luvlybg probably let you know that I am a "she". So...........what to do? I saw sort of like a replacement at theBugDash. But, I wonder if maybe they could drill small holes where the speakers are. Or, maybe if I could get the "dash" off, I could replace the cloth. What advice do you guys have? Thanks.

Thats one ugly and sad modification to your dash I'm sure you could order the two original dash covers from your dealer and take it back to original.

No doubt you want to do something...sad,sad,sad

It was the flower in her bud vase. It looked pink. Do you know a guy with a pink flower? You should look at those dash covers someone here is trying to sell. I can't use them because I have gauges I'll look for a link.

Hi there. I love my car squeaky clean and tryed many different things to keep my dash board spotless ( scratches I can't fix ). I can tell you, nothing can beat vacuum cleaning with soft brush extension and nice swipe with dry car polishing yellow glove. See if you can find somebody parting out the car and get the left and right dashboard pieces or find it at the scrap yard. Should not be expensive and replacement is easy.
While there.... replace the cabin air filter.

Good luck

well, if the speakers in the dash actually work, putting a dash cover over it would be a bad idea.

Replacing the panles with stock ones or re-upholstering them would be my favorite suggestions. Those panels are actually really easy to take out. Well, stock they are. You remove the center piece by pushing it toward the windshield then remove the 3 screws next to the windshield and both panels should just pop off.

What i wanna know, is who would put big speakers in a bug with a factory radio?

I don't know since I just bought it from a dealership. However, the sound is fantastic! It also has a Caractere conversion kit that makes it really sharp. It is a beautiful bug--except for the awful dash. I will try taking out the center thing and see if I could just re-upholster the sides.

I cant figure out how they got the speakers on the passengers side, being thats where the cabin filter assembly is located. Makes me wonder if additional mods have been made under the covers???
