Default Headliner Help!

I'm new to this so forgive me if I missed an old post about it. I drive an 03 GLX 1.8T Green with Tan Interior. There was a small spot on my headliner near the sunroof and I tried to clean it with uphlostry cleaner. This was apparently a bad idea becuase now in that spot it is all lumpy and looks like a huge water stain. Any suggestions for repairing the damage I've done? Also there are a few small spots where the headliner is sagging, any suggestions?

It's always best to use diluted water. For reasons beyond my comprehension it doesn't leave water marks. Just keep searching the forum for the best products to use. Lots of info on them.
Or you can do like I did and replace that nasty cloth with vinyl. SO much easier to clean and, in my opinion, it looks much better.

remove your headliner and replace the cloth with any other fabric..some people have used plaid, vinyl, suede and pretty much anything else that could be thought of

as far as the sagging you are going to have to reglue and to do that you might as well upgrade it...or start using thumb tacks placed in smiley faces or peace signs up there

I've heard that if you clean 1 spot you end up having to clean the whole thing, but I don't know what to say to undo the sagging. I suppose you could try getting some glue into a syringe and inject it, but that would probably just delay the inevitable.

I'm working on getting some fiberglass headliners made that won't sag over time, but they're also a little more expensive ($265) than a stock replacement, but you could let me know if you're interested.

Hi, Tesla
Where did you get your headliner reupholstered? My headliner is falling off and I'm trying to get a sense how much it would cost me.
Thanks

I have a 99 TDI with the GLX package (sunroof). Before I start trying to remove the headliner, is there anything special about the sunroof that would make the job tricky?

How does one remove the headliner anyway? Does it require special tools or a set of replacement clips to put it back in?

Dave
