Default Dead Animal?

i think this would fall under cleaning. i turn on the vents inside my car and it smells like something died. i checked under the hood and seen nothing. have yet to check the cabin filter though. any ideas where else to check?

First place to look would be the cabin filter. They love to make nests in them, those rascally mices & chipmunks

I replaced my filter because Daisy smelled nasty. There was no sign of animals, but a lot of leaves, that were in there about 4-5 months. A few days after I changed it, the smell was gone.

is the smell after running the AC? i know that if you don't run the AC a lot the water left over in the condenser will get all funky and smell. the only cure for that is run the AC mor or try to get some fungiside down there (I think you doo this by putting it down the hole where you take out the cabin filter.) i don't say to do this because even the guys over at the TDIclub are not too keen on it.

One technique for non-smelly AC that's been working for me:
After each run with the AC on, before turning off the engine, I crank up the heat and the fan right up for a couple of minutes. The heat kills the mold/bacteria etc in the leftover water, and I have no weird smells out of the vents. Before I started doing this, a couple runs with the AC on would stink it up.
