This is one of the reasons that for dashes I love products like Prima Nero. They have a nice matte or "concours" finish. It looks clean, but not overly shiny. I would look for something along those lines.

But as with everything, to each his/her own. Some people like the high gloss look. I personally prefer to keep that high gloss on the outside of my car.

There's no right or wrong way, just what works best for you.

And on the Armor All comment, I used to strongly believe that as well, and I believe that this used to be the case, but with both the material in the Beetle dash and the fact that Armor All wouldn't still be in business if their product cracked dashes, not even taking into account all the chemical changes I'm sure they have made over the years, Armor All is safe. It's nowhere near the best product out there in my humble opinion, but it is safe.

Default Scratched the Dash - So mad at myself

I cleaned the inside of Doodle last night at the car wash and vaccumed the dash with the indrustrial one there that had no brush. I noticed 1/2 way thru, that there were scratches all over the dash.

I immediated went home and wipped with a soft cloth, (not sure what I thought THAT would do ) but can still see them this morning.

Any advice on how to remove them????

I am beating myself up over this.

Nope you're stuck with the scratches unless you repaint it.

The only way I know of to fix them would be to paint the dash.

Oh crap..... not the answer I was looking for....

Thanks anyhow and let me know about what the dealer used. I have an appointment at the end of the month for my 3 month check-up. I will have him look at it then. Wanted to fix it before Hubby saw...

It is very suttle, but I can see it because I know it is there...

The Armor-All myth has been proven to be false, as you say. At the same time I still won't use that ****, even if it doesnt crack dashes.... it doesn't work properly or as claimed.

To clean pretty much ANY interior surface, leather cleaner/conditioner on a proper applicator. You can use 2 part or a 1 part... personally I use meguiars. I have used both a 2 part (cleaner then conditioner) and 1 part foam. It works great on VW's textured dash parts (both 00s have the textured dash). Cleans and protects well, and no side effects.

Yeah, I don't care for the Armor All much either, but some love it and I don't want them to think that they are doing damage to their car.

I generally use different products for different things. I really like Plexus and even diluted Woolite for the interior vinyl areas like the doors and dash. And I REALLY like the Prima Nero for the conditioning of those same areas.

For leather, I use Leatherique Rejuvinator Oil as an every 3-6 month deep cleaner/conditioner. (It actually cleans by conditioning. It gets the oils back into the leather and the dirt tends to rise to the surface) And then I use the Leatherique Prestine Clean for leather "touch ups" or "quick details"

Yeah if I had the money I would go higher end, and will need to some day.... black leather in both of the 00's.

and I am with you 100% on the ArmorAll thing...

Default Glue on the dash

HI everone,
I just bought my 2009 beetle Saturday and there are still a few spots of glue on the dash- The dealership said they would remove them for me but I can just as easily do it myself. Any suggestions as to what to use on it to remove it? I have household cleaners that I can use-but any suggestions?

Let the dealer do it. That way if they screw it up, they have to buy you the replacement parts to make it right. If water won't take it up, then let them do it. The dash scratches easily and the rubberized paint can come off making for a yucky mess. You have a new car - keep it new for awhile.

The bug dash cover is a great way to protect your dash from the elements or cover up scratches, discoloration, or cracks that may be present on your new beetles dash. Its a dash cap that installs right over the factory new beetle dash. I'm running a special 55 shipped. Satisfaction guaranteed

i scratched mine with the vacuum at the car wash too. i kicked myself, but now i know. only a microfiber or california duster touches it now.

and for anyone looking for a little shine, try aerospace 303 protectant. 303 will give a little shine but nothing greasy and unnatural looking like armor all, plus it actually will protect your interior from sun damage.

I think I will let the dealer take care of the 2 little spots of glue on the dash- they forgot it on there. Forgot to bring the title to my old car when I traded it in (oops!) so I can drop it off and have them clean it up.
Also- they forgot to remove that solar panel thing they put on the window to charge the battery. It was in the "trunk" when I got home-Shoud I give it back?

Default What can I use to clean my dashboard

I notice it's very sensitive... and not sure what type of materials to use... Right now it's dusty and some cracks are built up dust or junk. There might be a posting already about this, but I couldn't find it... thanks =)

btw, doesn't my radio have another color from the dashboard? Weird...

Warm water and a microfiber cloth. I use 303 Aerospace Protectant on it after cleaning.

Warm water, microfiber, and I keep a mini Swiffer duster in my glovebox to use in between. Weird about your radio, it's more like a dark gray than black.
