Default sticky residue on interior plastic trim

i just bought a used beetle, and found out that many interior plastic parts have sticky residue on it. I think it was damaged by some kind of chemicals or cleaning agent before. Does anybody know how to clean those sticky plastic parts?

WOOLITE? What does woolite do? I find that quite interesting. I have these swirl marks in Ernie's dash that I can't get out. I have scrubbed and tried everything I can think of to get the marks out, to no avail. Would the woolite do the trick?

Great comments everyone...

I came into this thread because I didn't know what to clean the dash with since it's rubberized. AND NOW I KNOW!!

Thank goodness up til now I've only used a damp dish cloth.

The dash got really dusty today while we were out n about, the swiffer idea is brilliant!! That'll be a job for tomorrow.

Is 303 safe to use on the painted part of dashboard as well as vinyl?
Thanks.

I have used 303 on all of the exterior black with great success. I have used it once on the dash using a very light dusting of the 303. I saw no ill effects of using it.

The only thing that I would be worried about with Armour All is that it has a tendency to dry out the surface that it's put on when it's in the heat. It will cause a dash to crack. I am not really sure how it would react with a NB dash, because the NB dash has that rubberized coating on it, but I DO KNOW first hand about dashes on other cars. My advise would be, DON'T DO IT. I wish someone had told me about the ill effects of Armour All on dashes long before I had ever used it on a previous car of mine.

Using it, doesn't make you "a bad beetle mom" because your intentions were good, I would just not recommend using it from here on out. That's all.

I saw Kitty mention this elsewhere and I had to try it. Now, thats what I always use allover the inside of my car. I like it bc its gentle and smells nice. I dont know if woolite will take out the swirls, but its worth a shot. It got rid of the hideous swirl marks that Armor-All left on my dash (before I knew we should be using it).

Exactly! Micro fiber cloth, warm water, then the 303 Protectant.

Yes, I also use warm water w/ microfiber cloth for wipedown, followed my 303 Aerospace Protectant.

I avoid Armor All like a plague

I avoid any cleaner/chemical that "shines", aka light reflection, the dash. Just use a micro-fiber cloth and very mild soapy water. Use a soft (tooth) brush for the textured areas. Then dry with a micro-fiber cloth. That's my two cents.

another convert

woolite is good because it's very mild, and yes it smells great! i use it on basically everything inside my car but the windows of course. usually it won't be needed, but if there's coffee drips on the console or watermarks on the seats or anything that the california duster or a dry microfiber won't get, i use woolite.

i used to keep a small 2oz spray bottle (the kind you get for $1 with all the travel/trial size things at like walmart or whatever) filled with water and a little woolite in my glovebox. that's gone missing now, so i usually just get a microfiber sopping wet in the sink, add a little woolite to it, and wring it out until it's almost dry. then just wipe down everything.

I just picked up a 2001 that had been cared for with some sort of product that wasn't armor all (I made sure), but the soft touch rubber and plastic buttons haven't held up as well as the interior in my 2000 that has only been cleaned with water and occasionally treated with Aerospace 303.
