Default My 1st Car Wash - Ouch!

I took my 2000 NB to a drive in car wash, drove my front-left tire onto the conveyor belt and as I was being pulled into the wash, I heard an unwelcome noise.

The guides on the conveyor belt managed to tear off that protective/noise reducing thingy under the engine ... the left side (the one on the conveyor) had come off and was hanging there - still attached to the right side.

Anyway, bottom line is that my NB is too low for these automated car washes (at least for this one).

Ideally, I should try to find a car wash that does not have the conveyor system (but haven't found one yet).

Anyone have similar problems as well as suggestions? Raise the car, etc?

wash your car by hand.

really.

there is one car wash by me that my car fits in (i'm lowered).
it's one of those little automatic car washes at and exxon station. you drive in, the thing moves around you and you drive out.

Is your car lowered? I have no problems with the car wash in my "standard height" NB.

Same here. I've used almost every car wash in town - automatic and self serve - and never had any problems. Is it possible that your cover was already starting to come off?

That's all I've ever done. I believe I could wash, rinse and towel dry my car in 5 minutes if I really wanted to hustle. 10 minutes tops if done leisurely, and save $4-7 to boot.

If I didn't use a car wash during the winter, Daisy wouldn't get all the salt and road gunk off all winter. Or at least for a month at a time. Also, I'm an apartment dweller and a wash and wax at the car wash is sooo much easier.

That's understandable...My situation is totally different, a hose and driveway just outside my door. Plus, I live in an area that averages 60 degrees year round.

I miss my parents' driveway (sort of; it was on a hill), and I miss not having a drought and water restrictions.

i take my car in about once a month to a professional car wash. the drive-thru ones can really damage your paint and what not. so i take Red there where i watch them dry and detail. they do such a great job!!!! i strongly suggest taking your car to one of those. they're not too expensive. i get Red washed, waxed, vacuumed, tire dressed and scented for about $15. i got my upholstery done as well as my floors by them and they rocked it! Red's scheduled to go back in real soon!
