I purchased my 01 GLX almost 2 weeks ago and breifly had a 2000 GLX (2 weeks )before it was run over! My question is, the leather seats had been detailed at the dealer and are really slippery, is that normal for leather seats or is it the product used to detail it? If it is product used from a dealer, what is the best way to completely clean them, so that they are free of residue? I'm not crazy about using products on my interior! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks Tammy |

Not normal IMO. Sounds like they slathered them with ArmorAll or something.
I would suggest some sort of leather cleaner to get that grease off then get some leather protectant or conditioner. I use Leatherique, so I can't help you with anything off the shelf.

Thanks for the info. I had a 1998 NB GL, so I am not too familiar with leather. My 2000 GLX was purchased from a private owner and had been professionly detailed too, so both the 2000 and 2001 feel the same when you sit in them!

My suggestion would be to start by thoroughly cleaning the upholstery with a solution of saddle soap and warm water. This method removed most but not quite all of the residue from my Cadillac that the detailer had used vinyl rather than leather products for his service.
Following the saddle soap cleaning, I followed-up with Connolly products. They make a concentrated cleaner that when prepared according to package directions cleans and prepares the leather for conditioning. The cleaner is then followed by Connolly Hide Care Leather Conditioner (formerly known as Connolly Hyde Food). I have been very pleased with the results as I have never had any of the Connolly products discolor my light color leather interiors(white, tan, or silver). I have used the above products on my 1999 GMC Suburban's silver leather upholstery since April 21, 1998, and the interior still looks like new even after 200,000 miles. I started my New Beetle Convertible off with the same regimen in November of 2007. Good luck with your project! Kevin
